HU won't switch on amp
I decided to add a sub to the scoob, so ran all the cabling and hooked it all up. Switched on the radio but the amp did not power on. I then tested a different amp and this also didn’t power on.
Next I tried another HU and this worked to I know the cabling is OK.
The HU is Kenwood DDX-6029, I have connected the Ext.cont cable to amp. In the menu’s on the HU the amp is switched on.
Has anyone had a similar issue with this HU or can anyone provide some suggestions? I am going to check everything with a multimeter now but will be back online in a bit to answer any questions.
Cheers in advance for any tips / ideas.

I've attacked the car with the multimeter and here's what I have come up with:
The main live is 11.5V
The ground is 11.5V
The remote cable is 5V
The zone control on the HU is set to single and the sub setting to on.
Everything seems OK but still no power on the amp, haven't got a clue now

Been a while since I've used a Kenwood HU but isn't the 'Ext.cont' the control for a specific sound setting on kenwood amps.... I'd try connecting the remote cable to the power antenna cable on the head unit.
Simply connecting the power to the remote connectors will leave the amp on and put a drain on the battery!
Hope that helps....

Si, thanks for the advice.
I originally cabled the Power control / antenna control wire but had the same problem. I thinking now that 5v isn't enough to trigger the amp to power on, I am going to check this on the HU I used for testing earlier.
Another thought I had was to use the 12V feed via a relay the is connected to the power control cable, this way it won't drain the battery.
I will let you all know how I get on.

I thought I'd post the solution incase anyone else has the same problem.
Tested again using a mates stereo and found that ext cont was giving out 12V but mine was only 5V. I also found and article for amp / sub which said that it won't power on if there is insuffient voltage.
I tested all of the connections coming out of the kenwood and found one that was 12v (marked for the power antenna), this is still live when you switch to CD. Wired this up and all was working OK, that was until I went around the first corner and learnt that my sub fixings weren't to clever!! Never mind though, all sorted now.
Cheers for the advice.

You shouldn't need a relay as that is exactly what is inside the amp. The remote turn on of any amp shouldnt pull more than 0.2amps at the very most. (As long as you have a good power feed and a good earth!)
Hope you get it sorted...
