Default metel plate or similar sticking through hose

hi all
looking under the bonnet on my bug eye sti i have noticed what seems to be a peice of metal stick through a 3-4 inch hose coming from the turbo. i spoke to my mateand he said it could be a blade from the turbo but it looksquite thick and solid. not had a chance to touch it yet as was too hot. it seems to be a triangular shape and looks at least 10 mm thick. wondered if it was a bracket or somthing similar. also figured this would make me lose boost.
help please
jay

is it the hose that comes from the turbo and goes onto the intercooler.if it is and its what i am thinking it is then it should be there, its how the pipe is made.

i maybe wrong but i think they make it like that so when your putting the hose back onto the intercooler you can put a bar or long screwdriver behind the metal bit that sticks out the pipe to help push the pipe back on the intercooler.
