Hi all,


I have bought spray paint for my hawk (O2c) and used it on a fog light cover, colour is an exact match... but its not reflecting the light the same... I have put the laquer on as well... its almost like it needs another coat of something clear to reflect the light... its hard to explain but basically the bumper shines really well and you can see your reflection (with the help from polish and wax) but on that you get a very very blurred reflection or not one at all.. wondering if anyone knows what it is that im missing?

When the lacquer finish has dried you need to flat it with 1500 wet and dry paper using loads of soapy water. Then use a cutting compound again with water to polish it to a mirror finish

BTW get proper cutting paste NOT TCut, TCut has amonia in it and 'bleaches" paint over time

How many coats of lacquer did you use? I would suggest at least 3 coats

Yeah as above its cos you havent applied the paint 'wet' enough so it can flow and give a wet/liquid finish. If u cant get a decent finish by flatting and polishing just paint it again but try applying the paint a littler wetter. And obviously prep the surface flat finish with about 500grit. Lie the covers face up too and you wont need to worry too much about runs if your a novice. Obviously a proper 2k lacquer will give u a better gloss if your not using that and better flow characteristics too fand will apply better anyway but you can acheive a great finish on small parts like this even with acrylic rattle cans. Youll probably find, as above a flat and polish will do the job anyway as long as it isnt too orange pealy

I used ****ty Halfords clear Lacquer, got some Holts 2k lacquer. Thanks for your help you guys, I will be using those technics and re-sanded etc... thanks guys

and I ended up putting 3 coats of the new lacquer and its almost perfect so just gonna get some wet and dry like you say guys

1k lacquer always dulls off over time. I always use 2k as its more durable.
