Default ECU problems - What to get next

Hi All

This is my first post but before I start with my problem I would to thank all the people on here that have given good advice and help to other peoples problems as without that I would not have got to where I am with the issues with my car which i won't go into as they are sorted now

Right, now on Sunday night i was driving back home when all of a sudden my engine cut on and my car died on me. I managed to pull over in a safe place turned ignition off and back on again only to hear the FP not prime. So managed to get flatbed home and took a look on Monday. I hardwired the pump and it worked so i was a bit shocked as I did suspect it had gone. I then dropped fusebox and put my hand on one of the FP barrel relays and turn ignition on and it clicked. So next i stripped my car out and chased the wiring back to the pum to check it hasn't been damaged (I design wiring harnesses for jaguar btw) anyway it was all good so I then decided to check the ECU and as soon as I took the plate off I knew straight away it was cooked by the smell. Admittedly I was giving it some when it went but that shouldn't of caused this?? I took the ECU apart and could clear see 1 of the (black strips) to the bottom left (if connectors at bottom) had burnt.

Anyway I needed the car for work so rang around and managed to get a chipped 2C from an RA, mine was a Z4.

Now i have boost issues my car has no pull like it used to and I know these are a downgrade to the Z4 but it was all that i could get at short notice.

So my question (after my life story^^^) is what are peoples opinions on what ECU I should get and what remap close to Birmingham.
I spoken today with API and they have Alcateks in stock which I have read good things on here about. Also looking at Simtec, but is there masses of difference?

I have done a lot of searches but I know companies update there maps so what are peoples choices? 1K is about the most I want to be spending on ECU+map and want it done ASAP

My car is a 1995 WRX with the TD5 turbo
current mods are as follows
Decat exhaust
K&N induction kit
Front mounted intercooler
Walbro 255 FP
AEM Tru Boost controller (which I have read bad things about on here but came with the car)

Sorry for the long post but I would take any input and Recomendations of what to get and who to go to.

Thanks Nate

I thought the Alcatek is the new version of the simtec. I've just had an Alcatek fitted and I'm happy with it. Slightly above your 1k budget though I think

I clearly haven't done enough reading then I didn't know that.

When I was running the Z4 I was running 11.8 psi boost and could rev to limiter without fuel cut off. Now the 2C is fitted if I gun it, I can get 9.8-10 psi yet ill get fuel cut at around 6K. I just feel like Ive chucked Beyonce out of bed and invited Susan Boyle in

Since it did this I knew I had problems which is why now I am asking for help with what to get and who to see. This is my second Impreza and Ive only had this car for 3 weeks. Literally just want her running right now before I get an even bigger bill.

Ideally I want this done tomorrow or Saturday. From what I see there are only a handful of places in Birmingham with a 4WD rolling road. I keep reading good things about Thwaites Developments but I know that Im gonna be waiting a while to get booked in.

Anyone around Birmingham / solihull. I have just been told ORP in Minworth are pretty good and its only a 5 min drive from me.

Can anyone advise on these?

The car was fine when I got it apart from the suspension. There were Tein coilovers fitted and 2 of the dampers were f****d. So I went to Driftworks and bought some HSD Monopros and fitted them also 2 days after owning it my speedo packed up and would not rev past 5k which flagged up fault code 33 which was the vehicle speed sensor. (cable on back of speedo not home properly)
Thats all sorted now.

I am a very capable person and will happily take apart any engine. I used to rebuild trawler engines and gearboxes quite regularly, Cummins, Cats, Gardeners etc also have done a V8 conversion last year on MK1 MX5 so i now my stuff when coming to engines.

I also Design wiring harnesses working for Lear Corporation Contracted to Jaguar Land Rover which are some of the most advanced harnesses in the world.

I also have a good knowledge in software development for cars due to working along side software teams as we develop our harnesses for prototype vehicle launch.

I was only asking what ECU & software people preffered and what people favoured in Birmingham. Yeah I've had problems with the car and yeah I have sorted them. The fault code issue I had to search this site for what it was and where the fuel pump was on my model oh and where the ECU is. But this 1 is sort of out of my hands as I want this setup up by a professional mapper.

Anyone have anything to say about ORG?
