Default New engine... Running in map??

Ok my engine went wrong, my 2.5 Wrx had piston failure . The car had td05 turbo , STI intercooler and injectors , uprated fuel pump ect. Had been mapped 7 years ago to 321bhp
Now having an 2.1 sti stroker built and fitted this week , will I really need a running in map ? Then another map once it's ran in??

Unless my memory is playing tricks, I never needed or was given a running in map for my 2.1 build. I simply ran it in according to the builders' guidelines. I suppose different builders will have prefered protocols?

Was you told not to go above 3k revs and not above 50mph for 200miles, then not about 4krevs and and above 60mph for 1000miles? Then map it? What's yours running now?

I ran a pipe from turbo to waste gate and just ran on actuator pressure for a 1000 miles.

As your other engine was a 2.5 with piston failure & now a 2.1, your fuelling & ign at least need a check before you take to running it in, unless your going for a third engine.

There was a whole A4 sheet of do's and don'ts, which I stuck to religiously. Running 425/400 ish. The car went to and fro the garage for checks during the running in for new oil and so on too. I would go with whatever your builder suggests though to ensure their guidelines are followed - if there's an issue down the line you don't want to muddy the waters.

Depends how long it takes, your's may well take a while, have a word with your chosen mapper for a running in map, & if he is going to do the final mapping once run in, will usually do a decent price for both.
