Where to get a gearbox rebuilt/replaced
Hi all,
I have 1999 Import Subaru Impreza Type RA limited edition 555 and have blown up third gear lol , Just wondered if it worth getting it re-built or getting it replaced but dont know whats the best gearbox for it, and wheres the best place to go to get either? if possible south east/midlands
Thanks in Advance

You could get it rebuilt for £600 I think but they aren't the strongest. Ideally you'd want a later 5 speed with matching diff that can take a bit more abuse.
Unfortunately I'm breaking my blob ATM with the later 5 speed and matching diff so if interested let me know. Looking for £350 for the pair and I'm only in march.

I will get you the code off the box tonight but it's the later 5 speeds that are known for being a lot better....short of a 6 speed conversion at £2k+ or PPG box at similar money, the later 5s are your best bet

might help.
I'm guessing the RA has the short ratio box?

Your best bet would be to have your box rebuilt.
You could fit another box but unless you can find another RA box (which you'll struggle too) then you'll lose the close ratio that the RA is all about.
Be prepared for a large bill as rebuilding them isn't cheap and 9 times out of 10 they will find other problems when it's opened up.
As above, speak to API or Tim.
