Hi, my Name is Max,
I'm from Germany and last week I bought an stock WRX STI WR1 with already 90k miles on it.
Since I don't know how long the gearbox and rear diff have not been serviced I'd like to change the oil in both of them.
Since my car is a WR1 it has according to the internet Suratrac front and rear LSD's and also DCCD.
The gearbox seems to be in a healthy condition, no grinding noises when driving the car harsh. The only problem I have is that with low temperature (below 10°C) getting the first gear (and some times the second gear) in is for the first miles not so easy.
After doing 3 hours of research I found out that the Motul Gear 300 should be put in the gearbox and the rear diff, but maybe I'm wrong here.
So my question is which oil should I get for the gearbox and the rear diff?
Cheers
Max

Hi Tim,
Need a bit of advice. A mate has a widetrack blob with the DCCD box and has recently started grinding slightly when going into 4th at high revs and 6th. It's not that bad but is there!
Will the Motul Gear 300 or Redline Shickproof be better to stop it from grinding?
Thanks

Hi
In that case the oil should be in fairly good condition, so I wouldn't think it's as simple as just replacing with a fresh oil. Because of that, I would probably use the Shockproof. It's up to you, you could drain the current oil and replace it all, or drain a couple of litres and replace that with the Lightweight Shockproof.
Cheers

Hi Tim,
I hope you are still around on here.
My 56-plate JDM 2.0 Hawkeye STI (with DCCD) is going in soon to have its gearbox and diff oils changed. Please can you recommend some of the best products available to me and the quantities I would need to buy?
Thank you
David

Advice needed. 1999 Impreza Turbo gearbox oil level is on the bottom mark, when cold. Once run its not registering on the dipstick. Leave it to drain and it settles on the bottom mark.
I would like to top it up to the top mark. Not knowing whats currently in the box am I best to fill with some semi synthetic rather than full?
