Default Is this lap top good value

I am looking to replace an very old Sony Vista lap top and want to buy one with a long life cycle hence the best processor I can afford, I don't need a large Hard drive as I have a main i7 PC running windows 7 for that sort of stuff and I will up grade the laptop to Win 10 as I have held off buying to avoid Win 8.1.

I like to buy from a reputable supplier in case of warranty issues so wouldn't want some thing from a company that doesn't have good customer service just to save £30.

It depends what you want from your laptop.

The screen res looks low for a 17.3 inch screen, i'd want at least 1080p. That 5400rpm hard drive will be very slow, i'd look for one with an SSD, the graphics are not the most powerful.

If it's just for basic stuff like browsing, emails and youtube etc it should be ok but it's a bit slow in certain areas hence the price.

I agree with this post.

Having a fast processor and a slow hard drive (5.4k is sloooow) means that although the processer can perform its tasks quickly it will have to continuously wait for the hard drive. An SSD Drive will improve performance far more than a comparison between i3/i5/i7 for everyday use.

I'd also recommend 8GB of ram although Windows 8/10 is pretty good at getting by with little ram.

The graphics card isn't going to be great for game play and will inevitably not support future games before too long if you want it for games.

It's also worth pointing out that ram and SSD drives can often be added to laptops after they've been bought but check to make sure you can as not all can if you go down that route. SSD drives are the biggest single performance game changer though of the last 10 years.

So would it be better to save up and buy this then for future proofing, i have checked that the windows 10 upgrade is ok but i am not sure how the warranty would be effected if i added a SSD or more RAM.
