I very much doubt you'll see the perfect working conditions enjoyed by all the factory workers not employed by Apple, I'm sure they all work 8 hour shifts and get free Pizza.

Very enlightening viewing for anyone who thought part of the inflated iGadget price was justified on the basis of more ethical supply-chain behaviour by Apple, and tbh, well worth a watch for any eager consumer of electronic gadgets from any manufacturer (the minerals etc, ultimately all come from the same places, and I doubt there's much to tell one far-Eastern assembly factory from another).

Should be available on iPlayer for a week if anyone missed it (or is it a month now?)

What are you trying to say? Of course I watched it, and I'm pretty sure Apple watched it too, hence the letter to their staff.

I must say I found the program heavily and unfairly biased - And I'm not even a Apple fan either.

As we all know Apple don't actually make anything...its all contracted out. And do you honestly think that all the components in every current electronic appliance you own or have seen in a store has been made ethically? The fact this program ignores all the other manufacturers who have their fingers in the same pie and focuses solely on Apple is unfair.

I could easily run off a massive list of PCB manufacturers that probably have sourced illegal Tin - be it knowingly or unknowingly.

The only thing that may justify this program is Apple portrays itself as whiter than white. When it truth its not really any different to any other electronics manufacturer, simply due to the scale and nature of the industry and its location.

The only way Apple can have any real control of how its products are made is if move its production into a country which has stricter workplace controls. Like the USA or Developed Europe.

That would be cool...Apple saying "made in California" rather than "designed in California" (even though the one chief designer was British ).

I think the title of the program makes it clear enough - this is only news because Apple have gone on record so vocally saying this kind of thing wouldn't happen on their watch.

Except they didn't say that. They are making efforts to reduce the problem, more than most if not all companies and countries.

Wasn't it foxconn who got into trouble for similar shoddy practices?
Ah here we go

http://www.cnet.com/news/watchdog-gr...le-over-labor/

Anyway as already said, they're probably all at it just apple that bit the bullet as they always try and come across as being ethical.

Oh come one, as if they would send a letter to colleagues admitting anything.

I agree Apple are probably no worse than anyone else, but that is no the point. They harp on about being ethical and x % of works this and that, but it would appear not to be the case.

Maybe they should move production to the US or Uk, but that would hit their profits or the prices would go through the roof.

Personally though, I don't really care. Someone has to make them, better they get something than nothing!

The Mac Pro is actually build and made in the USA, with apparently US sourced components. Part of the new 5K iMac is also assembled in the USA, but not entirely made there.

I'm taking a guess they are using a niche model to see how well it works and can scale, with aims to try and have some of their other products built entirely in the US from domestic component.

Production moves to the U.S. People once falling asleep at work now unemployed will die of starvation, at Christmas, and that will be Apples fault too.
