Used to do a spot of skiing, kneeboarding and wakeboarding and quite fancy picking it up (wakeboarding mainly) for the summer. Anyone in the Cambridge area know of a good place to start. What sort of cost for membership etc am I looking at, me and a mate are interested in buying our own board in the near future but would just like somewhere to kick start us into action.

Wyboston is pretty close but I dont know of anyone who goes there so any opinions/info would be good.

Simon.

Cool

I'm sure you'll enjoy it

I got my wakeboard from Boatworld who were doing a good offer at the time.

Nice website. Some expensive wakeboards - £450 + £250 for some bindings - ouch. Will wait a bit so I have a good idea of what I need to buy.

I just got a cheap combined deal - works OK for me (mainly coz I'm crap).

Loke mist bits of kit, the more expensive stuff is generally less stable / more responsive and so not suitable for a beginner.

If they've got kit you can use at South Lake then just borrow that and see how you get on.

Just found a little club north of Little Paxton near St Neots (in between A428 and A14) which is quite good if a little small. Water isnt too cold at this time of year.

Little Paxton looks OK if you've got your own boat - but it's a bit small and they'll only allow single person inflatables (if that matters). There's also a school there on a different lake and totally seperate.

If you would travel further then there'sTallington Lakes near Stamford which is much more serious and very expensive if you want to use your own boat at weekends.

I think there are some in Northampton, but I'll probably be back to Hunstanton again this year.

The lake was fairly big before but was split into two lanes last year. Now they have a dedicated slalom course and another used for wakeboarding so they have two boats on the go at the same time and the wakeboard boat actually has a skylon. They also have a jetski lake. All the members seemed friendly enough and they make a mean bacon and egg butty

Went down to Gosfield Lake today but it was an hours trek from Cambridge and way more expensive (like another £110 on top to join and £2.50 per tow more).

Tallington is over 50 miles from Cambridge so a no go as I intend to be going a a couple of times a week. I think Im gonna pop down South Lake this Friday and pay my membership. Lucky its pay day as Im gonna have to get me a decent wakeboard and bindings.

Edited to say the club at Little Paxton is called South Lake and has two club boats so no you dont need to be a rich c*nt to ski there.
