I was under the impression that I could purchase Prodrive Springs on their own. Dealer tells me I have to have Springs and Shocks, am I wrong?

View Full Version : Prodrive Springs only JackClark 22 April 2002, 21:24 I was under the impression that I could purchase Prodrive Springs on their own. Dealer tells me I have to have Springs and Shocks, am I wrong? nigelward 22 April 2002, 21:39 If it is a MY01+ (Bug Eye) then the springs are available on their own. Don't know about Prodrive springs for pre-MY01 (Classic shape), but if you can't get them separately Eibach do a spring only kit for this model. Nigel nigel s 22 April 2002, 21:40 The Prodrive Springs cab be purchased on their own, as I did. Part number SACC2544. Sorry this is for my01+. Nigel [Edited by nigel s - 4/22/2002 9:41:44 PM] mutant_matt 22 April 2002, 22:08 You can't buy the Prodrive spec Eibach springs for the MY01<. You can buy some similar Eibach springs from most other places and these are very good. Matt :) JackClark 22 April 2002, 22:50 It's an 01. Salesman talking out of his butt then. Went on to tell me how much damage it would do if I replaced just the springs. Nathan L 22 April 2002, 22:53 Which dealer? Name and shame them. Sounds to me like they were trying it on to get the extra money. Nathan.. [Edited by Nathan L - 4/22/2002 10:55:05 PM] AliWrx 22 April 2002, 23:51 I didn't even know you can get a different set of shocks for the MY01. Only springs available to the best of my knowledge (however limited it may be) Ali nigel s 23 April 2002, 00:34 The Prodrive / Eibach spring kit fitted with a proper geometry set up is well worth the money. Most people on here who have fitted these kits will praise the extra handling, steering feel, braking performance, firmer ride, slightly lower ride height etc for the cost of the product & fitting. Nigel Tsbar 23 April 2002, 15:13 Nigel, When you say prodrive/eibach spring kit - do you mean just the springs, or a full spring/shock conversion? And by proper geometry, are you implying proper setup by a mechanic?? Thanks for the clarifications! Ts nigel s 23 April 2002, 17:33 The Prodrive springs available from our main dealers for the my01 are made by Eiback, but these are different to the Eiback spings that Eiback market for the my01. I had my geometry set up at Powerstation (local tuning company) rather than by a main dealer. I believe the tuning company can give a more accurate setup with the wright equipment than the run of the mill main dealer. Does this help. Nigel mutant_matt 24 April 2002, 08:29 The tolerances that are "recommended" are huge and cars often come out of the factory driving quite badly, but because the are "within the recommended tolerances", your dealer will do nothing about it. Powerstation (http://www.powerstation.org.uk) (and others) have some decent geometry alignment kit which can transform the feel of your car, depending on how far out it is. The Eibach springs are as people have mentioned above, a very good value for money improvement in handling and as you need your geometry reset after fitting these, it would be rude not to do both together ;);):D:D Matt :) |
