Hmm, so the current line up consists of one of the most promising yuong drivers to hit the WRC in recent years and the most successful rally driver of all time, who's most recent championship was only 2000!

Also, in the previous post, where are you getting your info from? In the official McRae interview, he states that he is perfectly happy at Ford and has no plans to move. He does say that he is concerned about its asphalt performance though. He does say that he would consider a move for the right terms, but who would'nt?

Probably refering to this ?, taken from Rally-live.com

Must admit, after reading, the only logical move does seem to be to Subaru. Pug have Burns and Gronholm has just renewed his contract + additional tarmac specialists. I would have thought Citroen is too big a risk in their early days. That leaves Subaru with an injection of cash from 555 ......?? Tommi, Colin and Petter would be some line up !! Is Tommi only under contract for 2 years ?

When reports start emerging that a certain rally driver was prepared to have his little finger on his left hand amputated if it meant it would cause him less hassles and he would be able to driver better, it said just one thing: that that driver is very committed to his job and will do anything to succeed. Now that same driver has come out and said that he is willing to accept a pay cut if it means he will be able to get into the best car in the World Rally Championship and claim his second world title. That driver is Ford's Colin McRae.
McRae's 3.5 million pound contract with his current employers, Ford, expires at the end of the 2002 season, and while he has hinted that he would like to stay with Ford in the future, what he would really like even more than that is to be in a car that is capable of winning him his second title. The Scotsman won the world rally title back in 1995, but since then has failed to repeat the feat, and believes that if he wants to be a double world champion he may have to look at another team, even if that means taking a pay cut.
"I would like to stay at Ford if I can," McRae told the British media. "But the Focus is not yet competitive on tarmac. I need to make sure I'm in the best possible car next year, but getting into the best car might mean not being the best paid. It's always easier to stay with what you know. But I do want to be in a car that can win the championship and a lot depends on how the Focus and the team look when it comes to decision time."

I read a similar report on Crash.net yesterday.
I hope he does return. McRae is a top driver and it might push Petter and Tommi that bit more.

The rumor has surfaced again. This time due to a interview in the Sunday Mirror.

The same rumor was floating around about 6 weeks ago which resulted in a following scam theory

Come home Colin ;)

He,he..............the theory lives on eh Knightrider :D

Seriously though it always amuses me when reading comments about Rallying on this board, considering that the Impreza is a rally car the majority of posters don't arf talk some 5hite regarding their obvious very limited knowledge of the sport, I mean come on, who can possibly say "all the drivers are crap in subaru now" , where as if you want to talk about boring tarmac trackracing type (Yawn) circuit zoom, zoom, racing...........well you should be in your element here !:(

Sorry for the rant, this does'nt apply to everybody...........just the majority ;)

p.s Regarding the initial subject, Some sources claim that Bigmac has already signed to a certain ex-team :D for next year...........Silly Season in April...........what ever will be next ?

He's already in a winning car, just needs to keep it on the road a bit more often.

The only time Colin gets to the end of the rally is when he has injured himself in a previous event.

It wouldn't just be his salary that 555 would need to cough up for, all the written off cars and unsuccessful attempts at the championships.

Tommi and Petter is a strong enough team.

I dont think subaru can afford McRae not because of his wages but because he smashes all the cars up.
Solberg+Maki are good team.

We havent got to the rough rallys yet. :D

IMO, Subaru would be mad to even think about ditching Solberg - he will be a god in the next few years.

Hiya 555 you grumpy bugger...:D
he he

i agree about solberg, hes still exploring his limits and gaining experience!
just check out some of the in car footage in catalunya, boy was he smooth and precise, and winning stages on tarmac in a car that not supposed to be ideal tarmac car as the pugs seem to be.

And hes not crashing as much a mcrae did in hs early years.

I wouldnt write Tommi off this year either, once off the tarmac he'll be back in amongst it and the likes of panizzi will drop back, i think Burnsie and Gronholm are going to be the best fight, if burnsie can drive the tarmac in the pug he should fly once into the rough stuff!

IMHO it would be great if Mcrae did come back but i think since 1995 when he won the standard of driving has stepped up a gear, i think even in the scoob he would struggle a little as the points are won on consitency of finishes, the top boys dont have that many offs now and although mcrae is the most entertaining driver to watch IMHO it can cost by crashing out.

I think the subaru team is a good one, and tommi and petter compliment each other.

Subaru need 3 top drivers if the intend to catch the Manufacturer Title. Tommi + Petter + Colin would be the perfect combination to achieve that goal.

This is the latest Ford Focus McRae Special Edition ;)
Few dents here and there......
