View Full Version : drop links
My dealer says my drop links are worn and will need replacing soon.
Firstly - what are drop links? Are they the bits that connect to the roll bars?
Secondly - how much should replacement cost?
Car is UK MY98 4 door with 56k on clock.
Deep Singh 13 April 2002, 23:07 Doc yes they are exactly that.It would be a good time to replace them with solid drop links(ie from Scoobymania etc) they are made from more solid stuff so are meant to improve handling a bit.
CarMan 15 April 2002, 22:50 Doc
Just taken a set off my MY96 RA (12k miles) to replace with solid links - seems a shame to bin them. Make me an offer and save yourself some dosh?
Rob
Thanks for the offer but I'm leaning towards getting the solid links myself.
Where did you get them from and how much?
Were they easy to fit? Looks like 2 bolts per link from the pics I've seen. Did the old bushes cause problems?
mlambert 16 April 2002, 10:31 I find these to be great

spender 16 April 2002, 15:19 I want some.........anyone up for a group buy?
spence7 16 April 2002, 15:25 depends how much ! if cheap yes ! can they be fitted DIY style? or is special equipment required?
Is there a UK supplier for these?
spender 16 April 2002, 16:23 Yes they're easy to fit.
I don't know if there's a UK supplier
I've just mailed Rev_lab for prices.
Watch this space...................
mutant_matt 16 April 2002, 17:18 ...and are they bushed in rubber/polysomthingorother? Hard to tell from those pics....
Matt :)
spender 16 April 2002, 20:31 The red set (for the rear) cost $130 according to the web site and the straight ones (for the front) cost $100. Combination price is $210 (according to the web site).
If they come back to me, I'll get them to give me a quote for 25 sets.
mlambert 16 April 2002, 21:11 just so ya know, the top pic is kartboy
http://www.kartboy.com
I think they look beefier than the rev-labs and cost $100
$210 converts to £146.14. Assuming they get stopped at customs add 17.5% (probably 20% after tomorrow :() So we are talking £171.71 plus shipping. So about the same as the stock subaru ones.
Or how about the MRT ones direct from MRT in Australia. How does £63.23 incl VAT sound! The shipping charge would probably be ridiculous though.
spender 17 April 2002, 09:14 Anyone got any pics of the MRT items - it looks like a good price but without seeing a piccy...........................
Adam M 17 April 2002, 09:50 Surely we should be buying MRT stuff from scoobymania or townend as UK dealers.
Probably cheaper that way, and more likely possible. MRT have UK delears so that they dont have to mess around with such thnigs.
Try www.mrtrally.com.au/shop (http://www.mrtrally.com.au/shop)
If its cheaper to buy direct from Australia (they do ship) why should I buy from a uk reseller? Admittedly the shipping charges may account for the difference. I haven't investigated yet. I'm sure scoobymania's price is fair but you should always look around.
Does anyone know if scoobymania's price is each or for a pair?
CarMan 17 April 2002, 11:42 From personal experience MRT won't supply direct to the Uk, they merely refer you to their UK agents, but don't expect quick delivery, if parts aren't in stock in UK.
spender 17 April 2002, 11:45 Personally I don't like the look of the MRT items, they look just like bits of bent rod to me..................

mutant_matt 17 April 2002, 14:05 Spender,
I agree with you but when I've said this in the past, people have said to me things like "why does it matter what it looks like if it works and is out of sight". Of course they're right but you never want to put ugly parts on your car if you can help it... ;););)
On the buying from MRT front, I don't think they will supply the UK direct anymore but when they did, it would take months to come (if at all), and when it did come, it was often the wrong part, or was damaged upon arrival. Another problem seemed to be taking payment when the part was ordered but nothing actually turned up. I would gladly buy MRT parts from PS/TE/SM over MRT direct, even if it was a little more :rolleyes:
Matt :)
spender 17 April 2002, 14:09 lol Matt.
What I meant to say is that I don't think they look like they'll work that well.
The other styles look stiffer IMHO.
necromax 17 April 2002, 14:51 Try here:
http://www.townendgarage.co.uk/motorsportparts.asp
They supply MRT front and rear drop links for £36 + VAT respectively. No I don't work there, have never even spoken to them, but will be doing so cause I'd like some too..
spence7 17 April 2002, 15:28 That's the rear sway bar links yeh ? Which attach to the end of the ARB and somewhere on the hub ? With two bushes? Reason I ask is because I've never seen any on the front of the car.....yet town end garage seem to be selling them !
A.
necromax 17 April 2002, 16:05 Yes there are front and rear links, well, there are on my car
spence7 17 April 2002, 16:53 I think my 93WRX scoob is substandard :( sob sob
necromax 17 April 2002, 16:58 That might be it, I have a MY98 Terzo..
mutant_matt 17 April 2002, 18:30 Spence,
They do work well, they are quite strong. How much stronger do you think they need to be if the OE ones are plastic????? ;):D:p
Matt :)
