SS15: Burns out on his own:
Peugeot's Richard Burns has finally beaten Gilles Panizzi to a fastest stage time on Rallye Catalunya, finishing top of the timesheets on the longest test of the day, the 35.18km Viladrau.
Burns stopped the clocks at 21m14.9s, 10 seconds faster than his team mate Panizzi, who finished fourth on the stage.
Not to be outdone by his team mates, Marcus Gronholm was second quickest, aiming to nullify the threat from Petter Solberg in the Subaru in the battle for fourth overall. The gap between the two is now 27 seconds after the Norwegian posted the fifth fastest time on SS15.
Philippe Bugalski is the sole works Citroen representative following Sebastien Loeb's retirement on SS14 when he broke the suspension on the Xsara WRC. Bugalski was third fastest on SS15, and maintains his third overall, 29 seconds behind Burns.
Jesus Puras continued to find form on the final day. After a quite couple of days in the 2001-spec Xsara, Puras was sixth fastest on Viladrau, no doubt pleasing the home fans as he powered through stage with the famous flyover crammed with spectators.
Harri Rovanpera is also impressing on the final day of competition. In a Bozian Racing Peugeot 206, the gangly Finn posted the seventh quickest time on the stage and is breathing down the neck of Markko Martin in the battle for seventh overall. Martin finished the test with the 12th fastest time.
Francois Delecour, despite a puncture on SS15, hauled the Lancer WRC up to eighth on the stage and has now passed the Skoda of Toni Gardemeister for ninth overall. In fact the Finn has dropped to 11th overall after posting the 12th fastest time on the stage. Freddy Loix in the Hyundai has also leapfrogged the Skoda driver after the Belgian finished 10th on the stage.
Good to see a Brit finally beating those French tarmac lads at their own game! :D
As for Solberg... good lad! ;)
