Question

Does anybody know the torque capacity of a standard Sti clutch. My WRX clutch needs repacing and im considering puttin' the Sti clutch in or the organic AP (420Nm/310Ib/ft capacity). From memory the STi has about 260 Lb/ft as standard so the clutch must be able to cope with more than this?

Anybody know how much, just in case i decided to up the peformance .

Cheers,

Tony.

IMO i would go for the organic AP or a Helix clutch as they are much better than any subaru one you should have a chat to someone like Mike at Scoobymania, he does these and can tell you the pro's and con's more than i can but having seen a std clutch comp to an AP one, the AP one looks alot better IMHO

Cheers for that John. Im just thinkin' for a cost point of view too. The STi clutch is bout £350 from GGR while the cheapest i've seen the AP is £370 + £75 for the release bearing, thats £95 difference. Come to think of it thats not much is it!!

Hmmmmm, thinks its probably gonna be the AP then. Anybody know the torque ratin' for the STi tho, im known for not bein' able to make my mind up .

I suspect that the clutch in your WRX, is the same as the standard sti clutch anyway. Depending on MY, the WRX, and STi were qouted with pretty much the same power figures. My STi clutch started slipping as soon as I hit over 300ftlbs, others have got away with much more.

There are "uprated" STi clutches available, so check with GGR, and also if they are including the release baring.

The AP will certainly cope with 310ftlbs,

Mark.

From what I've read on here, the AP clutch is popular for big-power cars, running up to 350bhp and over 300lbs/ft. Then it appears that the gearbox is the weak spot. Several owners have shredded quite a few 'boxes EACH

Good luck!

Richard.
