This is just a short note to say thank you to all those of you who work in the emergency services.

I've never needed them, BUT there has been a lot of negative remarks regarding the police etc on the BBS recently so i'm taking the chance to say a big THANK YOU and you ARE appreciated.

It's too easy to forget those who everyday risk life and limb to save others and yet do so for too little financial and public recognition.

Those of you who are police, paramedics, firemen etc have a thankless job and one that I could'nt do in a million years.

Thanks guys.

No. Just wanted to say thanks. Saw an ambulance rushing to the scene of some incident today, and it reminded me that we often take these guys for granted.

I agree the emergency services do a great job and are always at hand when you need them. By emergency service I mean ambulance and fire crews.
Although the police in general do a good job, after a recent incident I have lost all respect for them.

Having recently been cautioned with a view to prosecution for something I was not to blame for, I was told that charges would not be brought if I did not proceed to claim damages for my car from the other party. The other party of course being a policeman. The same policeman who pleaded with me not to report the accident involving his daughter.Anyway all respect for these arrogant , lying deceitful police in my local nick has now gone.

Rant Over

Chip.

I agree with Chip - well done all Fire and Ambulance crew but sod the police. Every copper I know is bent in some shape or form, and the ones I have met during my motoring have been ar5eholes as well.

Well done to the genuine lads and lasses though.

Grrr! This annoys me so much. Tell me you are going to take it further - Perhaps to the Police Complaints Authority?

My respect for the Police has gone down hill recently - a couple of years ago I was knocked of my motorbike (which was written off ) by someone who was in a rush to get to Luton airport to catch his holiday flight. The Policeman involved was very supportive and didn't automatically assume that because I'm a biker it was my fault. He smelt a rat when the person who knocked me off kept changing his story on the events upto the accident, and decided to take matters further. It all went to court (I didn't need to attend) and the policeman involved phoned me up to tell me that he'd been charged with Driving without Due Care and Attention, got 5 points, and a couple of hundred quid fine.

Only a couple of weeks ago I was woken up by a Police women knocking on my door, telling me that she'd like to talk to me about my driving. At this point I thought I'd been caught speeding or something!

Unfortunately it wasn't the case, apparently on a local road near my home I'd supposedly overtaken a Porsche Boxster late at night, and pulled in to avoid a car exiting a hidden side entrance and caused him to brake heavily. He took down my license number and wrote to the local police office demanding that I get prosecuted for Dangerous Driving.

The Police woman started giving me a lecture on driving a performance car, and how this person was annoyed that people kept challenging him to a race, so he felt it necessary to take things further. She then came across as a good sumaritan and claimed that she'd talked him out of the dangerous driving charge, to just giving me a warning. Despite the fact I kept saying to the Police woman that I knew nothing about what she was talking about, she kept giving me a rollicking and after listening to this for 15 minutes, she left.

When I turned around to my girlfriend (Karen) to ask what the f*!k that was all about, she said that she'd been driving my car that night and that the Porsche driver was driving at 30mph in a 50mph, and when Karen decided to overtake the Porsche he put his foot down, causing her to accelerate even more. He wass right about the car pulling out from the side road though (a Volvo being driven by an old bloke with a dog in the back just pulled out without looking at the oncoming traffic) but the only reason he had to brake was because Karen was running out of road due to him putting his foot down.

So what really hacks me off with the whole incident is that the Police automatically steroetypically (26 year old male) assumed I was driving the car instead of asking if, and the Porsche driver neglected to mention the fact he accelerated, and that he then chased after Karen for the next couple of miles sharing my bootspace almost, and then when Karen pulled over to let him past because she was scared out of her life he slowed up waiting for her to catch up again, forcing my girlfriend to turn around and take another route.

I know the Police have a job to do, but sometimes they don't seem to get all the facts before going in headstrong and accusing people of things that might not always be as clear cut as they think they are.

Respect to the Fire Brigage and Ambulance service though as they do a very good job and don't get as much praise as they deserve.

Whilst on the subject of praising Fire crews & Ambulances what about those who are there to put you back together again.

Doctors & Nurses in the NHS get no praise at all except for a crappy wage from a pathetic Goverment. How many MP's do you know who use the NHS, I bet they're all on Private Health Care.

I know someone in the NHS who works 60+ hours a week for a crap wage and they still do it because "THEY CARE".

Cool

Scott W,

What a load of old crap!! How the hell can you get prosecuted for dangerous driving just because some idiot writes a letter to the police??

If this ever happens again just deny everything as then it is simply your word against his so there is no case. If you admit it then you have just incriminated yourself.

Surely the police have far more important things to do than this??

Just take comfort in the fact that one day this idiot in the Boxster is going to try this on with the wrong person and get a slap for his troubles.

Is it just me or are all Porsche Boxsters driven by complete morons. I have seen one man in a Boxster try and overtake a bus that was pulling out and only just managed to avoid it. And when I was on the motorway near Silverstone there had been an accident and another man in a boxster decide he wanted to go on the hard shoulder and undertake everyone. I had to laugh when one of the policemen at the accident stopped him and gave him a telling off

Unfortunately in all walks of life there are scumbags, and the police aren't excluded from this. Had a not very nice experience down at Hailsham nick once. However to let one bad experience cloud your judgement of an entire service is in my own opinion narrow minded to say the least. (Flame suit on)

Generally the police have a very difficult job, they are underfunded (by any government in power) and probably underpaid for the risks they take, and our expectations of them are very high when it suits us. The old adage "why aren't you catching real criminals" rolls off our tounges when we get caught for speeding, well guys the last time that I went through a 30mph sign I knew I was speeding and therefore breaking the law, but hey that was my risk. (plus if someone talked to any of us like that I'm sure we would think stuff you mate).I'm sorry but if a policeman turns a blind eye to that he is no better than the guy who screwed about with chip.

Was round at some friends for dinner a couple of weeks ago and they are both coppers. He currently has a broken leg courtesy of someone who they caught on a stolen motorbike......I'm sure he wonders why he bothers sometimes.

Dave

JD,

My thoughts exactly on the Dangerous Driving front, and yes all Boxster drivers are complete morons

I hope this Boxster driver does get a slap off somebody soon because he seriously deserves it.

Ca,
I didn't take it any further on the advice of other police that I know. I also went into Cardiff central to make a complaint and was told off the record to "leave it or they will get you somehow" by a police civilian.Otherwise yes I would have taken it further as I was bloody furious at the time. The only consolation I have is that the copper involved has since lost his job through fraud.

Chip,

If it had been me, I'd have got her number, called the station and asked to speak to the Duty Inspector. I'd have then tore a strip off him over the PC's behaviour.

I'd have then made it plain to him that he can either resolve the matter by giving the PC some 'advice' or I would take the matter higher.

Shocking!
