A mate is after a formula ford or something similar for track days - he's very into single seaters, cant stand my 205, doesnt even want to go down the caterfield route (also, they dont really fall into the 5 -6 K bracket)

He'll probably do track days this year, and a bit of racing next. So reliability is far more important than getting the edge of performance.

So - anyone have any ideas where you can get these things from ? I know of places like the BARC website, but i guess it would be best to talk someone who prep's the cars, so that he can aim for a reliable car rather than one thats had the nuts tuned off it.

Look in the back of Autosport. It's bizarre, but the going rate for a mid-80s one seems to be about 5k, but then the going rate for a 99/00/01 one is only about 10k

Most track days won't allow "open wheel" race cars (insurance?). He will obviously have to do test days with other race cars.

i've been on plenty of track days with ff type things knocking around. I'd guess that some dont allow it.

Any ideas why not ?

You can get plenty of Westies 5-6k. Depends if he wants to invest in a tow car and trailer to get the car to the track. Dunno about track days but proper race test sessions often divide the cars into closed/open wheel or by previous/expected lap times.
