New Civic Type R Performance
Do you mean like for like - un-mod'd? wet and dry?
Hatch versus Saloon
FWD versus 4WD
Non turbo versus Turbo
£16K versus £21K
Just different I recon - although havent driven new CTR yet (just from what i've read)
Be good to hear what sensible folks think (excludes imatrikhas) since its considered best hot hatch by many, and WRX is best drivers car - that may even have answered the question for you.

Test drove a WRX then a CTR. Overall performance/ability seemed very similar, although scoob would obviously be quicker off the line and better in the wet with its superior traction. On a dry track it would come down purely to driver ability I think.
I went for the CTR in the end, the Scoob is a slightly better car overall I think, but it did not justify the extra £6K and higher running costs IMHO.

I've now been the proud owner of a CTR for the last 5,000 miles (since November) after moving from a mildly modified MY98.
The Scooby has that turbo kick, but unfortunately also an amount of lag changing up.
The CTR comes in higher with a kick but you have to concentrate a bit to keep it there.
The CTR is better built and gets more attention than my Scooby did.
Performance wise, I really don't think theres that much in it. Now that mines run in nicely and been on Optimax for a bit I think it'll give a standard Scooby a run for it's money. Obviously a modded Scooby is different but then so's a modded CTR!
The Scooby is cheaper and easier to modify than the CTR. But it's also more expensive to run and insure.
Bottom line, they're both great cars and although I do miss my Impreza I don't regret having the CTR as a replacement one bit. If you ever catch me at a track-day please ask for a ride - I'll be only too pleased.

I have moved from a PPP MY99 to the CTR(which arrives end of March)....I loved the scooby....the performance...handling etc etc were amazing but the running costs were very high....which was worth it........after selling the scoob i thought hard what to get next and test drove many cars.......i finally settled for the CTR which is a fantastic all rounder and FUN! which is what i really wanted.....it does not have the performance of my scooby but it's still very good blast.........and alot cheaper overall....
LPITT.......do u get more attention in the CTR?? .......Blimey!!...i thought nobody would notice it.........scooby was a headache because of all the attention it would get.......

I swopped my MY99 for a Civic last Friday. The Civic seems to be easier to keep on the boil than the Subaru (I have gone right off turbocharged cars due to the throttle response and lag). It's hard to tell whether the straight line performance is the same, but so far I haven't felt any torque steer whatsoever (unlike in the Subaru, amazingly) and I've been taking corners faster than I did in the Subaru (and I'm talking in normal-ish driving, not ***** out) because there's more feel and more confidence from the front end.
I tried a MY01 WRX but it was the worst of both worlds. So I'm very happy with my Civic.

BASH: I get loads more attention from the CTR than the Scooby. Every time I leave it in a car-park you can guarantee people will walk round it and look through the windows.
That's why I got my NAVtrak refitted a couple of weeks back!
Don't mind the attention though - otherwise I'd be driving a Focus LX or an Astra LS (tongue-in-cheek).
SJobson: There may be no torque steer at the moment. Wait until it's broken in though. Around 1,000 miles something seems to go 'click' and the rocket burners cut in. Mine's now done nearly 5k and it gets quicker every day - mind you so does the smile

I dont mind the attention if its just people who are interested in the car..........but its the other type that i dont want to attract..............
When i test drove the demo at the dealers it had done 3K miles and it certainly felt very fast and surprisingly torquey at low revs.....i think most people believe that this engine is the same as the rest of the vtecs and that there is nothing at the bottom of the rev range......but this i-vtec engine is very different.....
Cant wait to get mine at the end of the month...........

I've actually been stopped twice by car-mad people who just wanted to talk about the car. Usually opening with 'Isn't this that new Type-R Honda?'. Good boost for the ego - now if I could just get the same effect but without the car
Why not pop over to: http://www.ex-s.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi for info on mods. As far as I can see at the moment there isn't an affordable exhaust. Mugen do one but it's about £10 short of £1k!
There will be loads of stuff soon though.
