Make sure its had a good blast before it goes in, to get rid of all the unburnt fuel and clear those cats out.My WRX failed ,so I went about 5 miles usng the turbo as much as poss and getting it warmed right up, returned to the garage and passed no problem.

I've made a note of this to remind me before i go for my next MOT

Badgerbell is spot on. I test lots of cars with cats and 90% of the ones that fail get a thrash around the block and they fly through the test no trouble.
But there is that 10% that does'nt! (mostly lamda sensors or exhaust blows).
Cars that do town work are the worst as the cats never get up to optimum temperature to work properly.
