A lot of alarm companies are selling CAT1 alarms fitted for under £300 at the moment, I'd suggest ringing a couple. Normally when you buy an alarm you get a life time warranty (depending on model, make, fitter etc.).

Hope this helps

Unhappy

Dont think you can get cat 1 certification unless alarm is supplied and fitted by a professional.
Could be wrong though.

I think you can buy a second hand one but you need to get it check out by a VSIB installer for the certificate and the insurance reduction (if possible). I was going to buy a second hand alarm and get it checked out, but it was better to get a new one fitted and a life time warranty (as long as I keep the car).

Buy a new one. I had one transferred on a car before and encountered the following problems:

i) Cost to refit is prohibitive.
ii) Dont know if this is BS or not but the guys who refitted for me would not give me a new VSIB cert, advising that you only get one per alarm. They did give me a letter advising conformity though, but insurers questioned this.
iii) Alarm never performed the same again, and needless to say pi55ed off all my neighbours on a regular basis.

I reckon you will be £100 to £150 to fit, plus cost of 2nd hand alarm, which = not worth it if you can get new for £300.

Cheers
Garry
