Question

Ok, I'm probably being a bit thick, but i hope somebody out there can help/advise.

I know from the SIDC pages that the gear ratios between the UK and Jap imports differ, however does this mean the boost should differ as well?

I had a 94 UK a few years back and the boost came in at about 3000 rpm, I now have a 94 WRX Sti and the boost doesn't appear 'til about 4000, is this correct or should I get it checked?

Also, is it worth changing the gear box for a UK ratio one? I seem to remember that in the UK car you could drop down to 3rd at about 60 and the car would take off - if I do this in the import the revs are a bit to high and the engine is screaming...

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

My '92 WRX boosts up around 3000 RPM. I had a problem a few days back of the car boosting at 4000 RPM and it turned up to be a split pipe near the actuator.

Splat -

I too have a MY94 STI 1, from memory the turbo should be coming on by 3000 RPM, if its not until 4000 RPM I would suspect somethings dodgy. Check all your pipework, as mentioned you may have a split somewhere.

Nice to see another STI 1 owner out there - first one I've come across !

UK cars have 3.9 diffs. Imports will generally have 4.44 or 4.1. To change gearing for all gears (1-5) requires both diffs. replaced & not the gearbox. I guess that a change in gearing will have only a small effect on the point where boost comes in. Some engines by the nature of their design come on boost much later ie very poor low down torque. Often cam shafts & exhaust sacrafice bottom end torque for top end power in highly tuned engines.eg STi? Ask a competant rolling road operator handling scoobs to comment/check out.
