Question

My new car has DS3000's fitted to the AP 6 Pots... I seem to remember that there was a problem with DS3000's and brake dust or something? Now I don't want to break the lovely BBS wheels so should I put the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads back on or stick with the DS3000's? Use will be varied from town to track to motorway...

A lot of people had the Alcons fitted with the ds3000 pads, they eat wheels, or rather the dust does, change them or be prepared to buy new wheels regurlarly.

Polar, they will be good on track, but as said before the dust will eat the wheels. I would swap to the Performance Fricton pads.

The problem is the metal content of the pads. When I had my Alcons first fitted these were in and you have to clean the wheels after every outing. Also after a spirited drive the side of the car was getting covered and difficult to clean off !
Eventually I got through a set of discs in 5,000 road miles and i'm not normally hard on brakes ! Did get the front wheels changed under warranty as well as once a small area is left then it's almost impossible to clean off. Saw some wheels that had gone rusty.

For ultimate stopping power though, they take some beating

Cheers

Steve.

Ok, is this problem unique to impreza wheels then? The current owner of my new car is on his second set and the wheels are still immaculate I don't want to waste good pads (the DS3000's are only 1000 miles old), but if they are going to eat the wheels I'd better change them.

The owner must have cleaned his wheels on an almost daily basis, then put a very good layer of wax on the wheels.

... which still leaves you with the brake dust eating away your paint ... anyone remember the dreadful P1 pics a while back ? (was that Arron Bird's car BTW ?)

Free advice is worth what you pay for it, but take 'm off. Maybe consider Pagid or DS2500.

Theo, the DS2500's will still eat at your wheels.

Danny:

Some people on here said that the DS2500 wasn't bad as far as brakedust goes.. Is that wrong then ?
I have mintex 1144 and the dust from them is fairly difficult too. Impossible if left for a week or more..

Danny, yes please if you have more info ... I thought previously that the 2500 did not contain the metallic particles that burn into the alloys/paint, and am about to order them to replace the DS2000.

I don't mind brakedust, but I do not like the paintwork getting eaten away.

I have had a set of DS2500's for about 6-8 months. The last time I washed my wheels they had started to pit. The pads are no way as bad as the stories I have been told about the DS3000's.

They are good pads, dont get me wrong, work well from cold, work well on track. But please remember one thing, I am using them in AP 6 pot calipers.

Thumbs up

Use the alcon prodrive 4 pot and had ds3000 for 4000miles shagged the wheels big time and had the discs and pads changed to ds2000 under warrenty. These are ok but no where near the same bite as 3000.
No distructive dust though.
