My drivers side rear wheel has developed a rather irritating squeak. It only happens when the car is only just moving - eg below 10mph. Its not a permanent squeak when it does it, its like squeak, quiet, squeak, quiet etc etc. Seems to do it more on right hand corners and straight ahead and only slightly on left handers.
I've recently had the rear brake discs and pads replaced under warranty (MY99) by a scoob dealer. I think it only just did it before (might not have done it at all) but now its very loud since the new brakes went on.

Anyone got any ideas or does it mean another trip to the dealer?

Cheers
Neil.

Neil i think it's another trip to the dealer.
I had the same squeak albeit from the rear passenger side which was only cured after my last service 11/01 when they dismantled the brakes and re greased. It hasn't done it since.

CHEERS SCD Simon

p.s. bleedin annoyin though

sounds like it could be a wheel bearing,i had this and dismantled the brakes so many times i could do it in my sleep but never traced the source of the sound.
I left it like that for months, obvious checks for wheel bearing problem didn`t show anything i.e no wheel wobble and no squeek when rotating by hand. new bearing sorted the problem though.

Cheers guys

I don't think its the bearing as I've had them go on me before and it doesn't seem the same thing but you never know

It actually started happening after the brakes were done and not before, now I double checked with the missus and this morning I was really listening out for it and you can hear the squeak up to about 25 mph. I phoned Mill Lane who fitted the rear brakes and got an appointment for Sat to check it out..........

Exclamation

Exactly the same happened to me after having new brakes fitted (discs & pads). I could work out where exactly it was coming from and everytime I thought "right it's going back to TN" the squeek stopped and I wouldn't here it for a couple of weeks.

I still get it very occasionally but now I've got a BPM backbox and I can't hear anything except that now

I got the odd squeek from what sounds like the rear brakes. I only ever seem to notice when I'm reversing out of the drive at home though.

Must mention it to the dealer tomorrow - 45k service time. Ouch.

I've got the same thing as well!

Rear passenger side...under 10mph. Brakes not changed, seem to have started all by itself as it didn't do it when I first got the car

Neil - where did you get yours serviced?! Got the 45k coming up around June time, was thinking of taking him to Scoobysport...

Think I have the same - and I rekon its the handbreak shoes.
not sure how they are on the Scoob (as there'n no manual! ) but think they are usually inside the 'drum' bit of the disk. Mine seems to go away if I pull the handbreak on slightly (at about 10-20mph) then release it. next time I get to a round about it does exactly the same.
had the brakes replaced about 6mnths ago .. & the dealer has just taken them all apart to try to fix it - but no luck. They're gona try to have another go next week!

Question

Did anyone find another cause? My dealer stripped and cleaned brakes again, but the squeek came back after a couple of days.

Mine's still there too.

Seems to happen more if I go over one of those severe speed bumps. I quick speed up and dab on the brakes gets rid of it though.

Spooky. I've noticed my car making this sound in the past and about half an hour ago I noticed it again at low speed with the window down. I was just about to post a message when I read this! Hope it's a harmless squeek and not a bearing problem... I'll try the handbrake method next time to see if it has an effect - I know dabbing the brakes doesn't stop it happening as I just tried that.

My UK300 seems to have started this too. Rear passenger side particularly on damp days. Only done 11K anyone else have this problem on the new model?

well I've had mine back to the dealer who's stripped it all down, but now it's started again - more prominent on the other side now !
so I'm not happy & going to go back again.
also the handbrake is now very jurky (@10mph) and lopsided !!!

Mines been back to the dealer three times for the same problem (rear nearside squeaking at low speed), really annoying. He reckons it is the hand brake but despite him stripping and lubricating it the noise remains, so I'll probably try another local dealer at the next service see if they can do any better.

Then again maybe it's another of those 'they all do that sir' features of the car!!
