Lots of posts on here at the moment about brake pads and especially EBC Red pads. I recently had Black Dimond drilled and grooved disks fitted (front only), and braded brake lines all the way round. At the moment they are fitted with EBC Reds and they are terrible. The question is what else to try? I was really hoping for improved braking performance and the original Subaru setup was better!

I'm using Mintex 1144's and they work great from cold, but need a fair shove of the pedal to stop quickly. This may be down to the fact that I dont have braided hoses and upgraded fluid, as the harder pad probably needs more force.

I put DS2000's on my MY00.

Much better than the standard pads.

Ds2500 ferrodos are better again! TSL motorsport have them,
WAY WAY ahead of the jurids and Mintex IMHO,

 

I am back with original subaru pads. I will not use EBC's reds again. I find the Subarus better. ( 2.pots)

I have got Mintex 1155's they work really well, not amazing from cold though. They are what the SWRT use in the recce cars.

Std pads crap, faded, smoked. DS2000's a lot better, only faded them once. DS2500's even better, especially with grooved disks.

Cost for DS2500's is about £140+vat.

Forget all the above m8 the best pads I have tried are from Japan and are called Project Mui HF Carbon.

They will transform your car whatever speed you drive. Instant innitial bite and incredible on the track.

These are highly regarded in japan and the states where they have won many reviews.

They are not cheap though cut they are cery deep pad with veryb good wear qualities.

Chris you could try Pagid depending on what set up you have you can use Pagid fast Road for the 2 pot's or Pagid Blue for the 4 pot's. Also the Ferodo DS2500 can be fitted to the 2&4 pot's yet another good choice dont you think!!

I have Mintex 1144 on my AP 4-pots with 330mm grooved discs, and I'm not that impressed with them.
But the biggest problem is the brake-dust that eats the wheel-paint alive.

Does the Ferrodo 2500 have less agressive brake dust ?

Thanks for the responses. I think we can discount pads for track use. I havn't been on a track day yet and I've owned the car for nearly 2 years! A good road pad is what I'm after, I don't want the situation that I've got at the moment where the things have got to be red hot before they'll do anything!

Anyone got any comments on the dust on DS2500?? I have narrowed the choice down to either 1144/1155 or DS2500 but don't want my newly refurbished wheels wrecked.

I've done about 500 miles with the DS2500 and there seems to be minimal dust. I do have anthracite wheels though, so it's hard to tell.

 

Everybody seems to be talking about EBC REDs - has anybody any experience of GREENs on an Impreza?

 

DS 2500s from HiSpec were £75.93 plus VAT! Bargain and no dust.

Just checked prices with HiSpec. Unfortunately £75.93 is DS2500 price for their monster 4pot calipers (superb kit).
Pad price to fit standard Scoob 4pots is about £150.
Me thinks this is another good reason for upgrading the whole nine yards.

If you run uprated, harder pads on the standard discs, the discs will wear almost as fast as the pads, which gets expensive!

In my case, Mintex 1155s caused disc to split after 10k (one track day only). I tried for a warranty claim but no deal (not too surprising). Rather than replacing with standard kit the HiSpec 315 discs/bells and Monster4 alloy calipers seemed like a bargain.

SteveF - I have EBC greens on my Impreza - great road pads with good cold bite, and no fade so far on fast road driving. But, I have been told not to trust them on track as I will wear them down in very short order. I think for the next track day i will move back to pagid blues.

I'm running the TSL Group N grooved discs with DS 2500s. At that price I was going to get a spare set of pads!

DS prices vary wildly from application to application.

Looking in my anorak wearers pad "footprint" book, it's naturally the ones that share several crossover applications that come at very palateable prices, as Federal Mogul can obviously make 'em by the bucket load.

As most of the scooby pads are model specific, we all have to pay for the privelige
