Talking Number One Son is 18 on 14th Sept. Is it..............

the done thing to bugger off to a hotel for the night, or hang about just in case I've got instructions on the booze supply, Magners (yuck)

Do I just leave the house tidy or dress it up, you know. You are 18 banners and all that bollox.

Next doors lad's 18th was hilarious.

I only had to have a quiet word over the fence at about 3am, but other than that they seemed OK.

But.. And here's the but, I had the old man round asking if they were OK when they got back. I obviously said 'yep'....

He seemed a bit pissed off about his JD being drunk and someone throwing up in his bed...

Lad's, they know how to have a laugh.

Edit - No long term damage caused, let them get on with it IMO.

Tam, Big tit's are one thing, but....

No actually, they are the way forward. Strippers, 84, it's the only way.

Congrachumulations for your son's 18th, Lesley!

I would say- B@gger off to the hotel for one night with your daughter and Mr.84, leaving the house for your son and his mates, and all the booze+party foods No point leaving anything tidy behind, the place will look bombhit when you come back, anyway. Beer cans and cider bottles everywhere, toilets full of artistic patterns with either way traffic! Even Jet wil be hungover, nevermind the cats Your son and his mates will have good time, just take at least two weeks off work to clean the house after the "homealone" party!

LOL depends what your son likes, 84. Mine didn't want too much fuss. We had a few family parties around that time. I bought him the car, his dad got him car Insurance etc. He got money, money, and money from other family members and friends. He went with his mates clubbing that night. I wanted to book a function room for a party with a DJ, bar etc. for him and his mates. But he didn't want that. A bit boring it may sound, but we had to abide by his choice for his 18th.

Oh, I did put up the banners with "18" and the cake malarky took place in every family party for him.

It's a great occasion. Many congratulations

I was going to get him a cake, but don't want him to look naff infront of his mates

I've got a wad of dosh for him and a few pressies, but think it might be best if I bugger off for the night

You can obviously remind him of some rules on the way out.

One of my 17yo clients went away skiing with his family last Christmas leaving the 19yo son at home. Decent family, reasonably well to-do. The 17yo I knew was very decent, polite and intelligent so I would assume the brother was similar. His mates and people who weren't mates but heard he was 'home alone' however were not so respectable. £4k of damage to the house and the family cars wrecked after having been used and abused for nearly the full fortnight, then left dumped on a scruffy estate. Needless to say the lad was homeless and had a rare shiner on their return.

If you do go out, employ a neighbor or two to keep an eye on things, and make sure you can get back quickly enough and in sufficient numbers to regain control if needs be.

But I'm sure everything will be fine

I remember my 18th well. It was a Sunday night and I had been constipated all day. So I drank some laxative and went and got drunk in a local seedy club. Saw two birds smooching, and asked if I could join in.

What that has to do with laxative I don't know, but I certainly wasnt blocked the morning after

I am sure that C will have a level head on him, though many of his mates may not be so polite, so prepare for a lot of tidying up and some decoration.

TBH, it's a nice turning of age, so I guess the best thing would be to leave him and his mates to their own devices and trust in his common sense.
Forget the cake, leave that for later with the family as it will be the only thing left to eat after they eat you out of house and home

Couple of ground rules on the way out (no ******** in mum and dad's bed ) no molesting of the pets, plastic cups all round and a number where you can be reached

Oh and dont let him anywhere near facebook or faceparty leading up to the evening

Do not risk your house. Get them to go clubbing and tell him he can have say 6 mates staying over. They could all meet at your house before they go and maybe have some grub with the Vodka. Then organise the minibus to pour him back at 3 in the morning and take other strays back home. If he has a half sensible best mate then bribe him to keep an eye on your lad and tell him you want him home in a half reasonable state and you do not want a call from local plod at 4 in the morning.

Easy peasy. Now you can start saving for his 21st dl

Thanks all. Only got one neighbour as we live in the sticks. House is big enough for him and his buddies to be in one end and us in the other.

Mum and Dads bedroom will be locked As will the study.

Got a few days to mull it over.

Chocs, did you really have to tell us all you were constipated on your 18th

Lee, I know your boy is a sensible lad but what about if gatecrashers get to hear about it and turn up en masse? How about you go away for a nice pampering/shopping weekend (I'll come with you ) and leave hubby in charge. He can set himself up at the far end of the house with a mate or two and keep on ear open for any trouble but leaving C and his mates to get on with having a good time.

Make sure that you leave it a day or two before coming home so that the worst of the mess has been cleared up by a guilty son and worried hubby

Didn't think you were old enough for that yet Lesley

I think I would prefer to be around just in case there are some untrustworthy types at the party. It is your house after all.
