I knew he was a millionaire, didn't realise by that amount though. He is very talented though at writing and enjoyable to watch.

With that sort of money, you would think he would buy a tooth brush.

As (co)creator of the current incarnation of TG, (co)writer, presenter and probably (co)producer, and it being the single most profitable show the BBC makes, along with all his independent productions and books, his writings in magazines and newspapers over the years, public appearances (think £30k+) and other TV work it comes as no surprise that he's completely minted. A very clever man, well educated and extremely witty. His bullish Northern attitude often regarded as arrogance adds to his comedic charm making him very popular, whilst loathed by some. I think he's brilliant and don't begrudge him a good living for providing a quality product, although I envy his charmed life. How many of us wish our job involved thrashing the @r$£ off of other peoples million pound supercars every day ?

I think the SL55AMG went when he got the GT, the Gallardo was up for sale and has probably gone. He always says the XC90 is for the school run, and the Merc Grosse was an anniversary present from his wife. He said on TG that he's considering an SL65, although the 'Black' edition was tempting him. Not sure which he's kept as he's bought others though.

I think he's great to watch. Always entertaining - Sharp, witty, opinionated(which is something that is fast disappearing from tv due to the PC brigade), and he's a character!

Definetly deserves the money he earns, especially when you think about what they pay Jonathan Ross.

Good luck to the guy. I find him a bit of an opinionated **** to be honest, although he is a fairly funny one.

IMO They both deserve the money they earn. Ross does his job well, so does Clarkson. Some of Clarkson's books are quite entertaining, so are his editorials. Not necessarily I agree with everything he writes LOL. But his strikingly bold, witty and hilarious writings (even when it can be one dimentional many times) are a good read. Watching him is fun too.

I don't think the Lightning jet plane is still there, but there is someone on here who lives near him (Chipping Norton I believe) who may confirm. I've had a look on Google Earth but can't see it in the locality of the town.

His known passion for single- or two-passenger high-velocity transport led to his brief acquisition of an English Electric Lightning F1A jet fighter XM172, which was installed in the front garden of his country home. The Lightning was subsequently removed on the orders of the local council, which "wouldn't believe my claim that it was a leaf blower", according to Clarkson on a Tiscali Motoring webchat. In fact, the whole affair was set up for his programme Speed, and the Lightning is now back serving as gate guardian at Wycombe Air Park (formerly RAF .

Clarkson is a legend

He deserves every penny he earns solely for his unerring ability to wind up the self-righteous tree-hugging, lentil munching, leftie enviro mentalist factions of our society

Not strictly accurate

Michael Bond was the creator of Paddington Bear. Clarkson's mother created the stuffed toys, in an early incarnation of official merchandising

Clarkson has acknowledged tmore than once that the Bear put him through school and university

Don't forget, the BBC pass program's to the 'Worldwide' arm, yet the profit's come back to the BBC. Our licence fee does not cover the program's made that we watch.

If he's owning/appearing in a program that help's to pay for the normal tv program's, then good on him.

So he inadvertently may be helping to pay for the BBC's constant diatribe on Global Warming and Climate Change. Can anyone recall a news program from the last 5 years which didn't remind us

Top gear has got to be the most contrived TV programme ever made.
Those "races" are about as credible as an F1 GP
I just wonder when they will start using canned laughter( )
However, he has made a lot of money out of what he does, and that does seem to impress some people, so good luck to him I guess
