Has anyone out there fitted their own Prodrive headlamp conversion? Is it straightforward? Also, any ideas where I can get the best price for the HID headlamp kit - tried my local dealer, but they only quoted list price.

Daphne

Welcome to Scoobynet. Are you talking about the UK300 style lights or the Morrette conversion?

A few people on here have fitted there own lights but as far as I recall alignment was a problem. Most took theres to an MOT station afterwards for the lights to be done with a Regloscope (spelling?). Some people do it themselves using a garage door or wall and mark the beam pattern for the original lights with masking tape then line the new lights up, using this as a guide.

As far as the wiring is concerned its fairly straight forward as long as you get English instructions

HID is going to be expensive wherever you got but you could try...

www.scoobysport.co.uk

Pete Croney the owner has Morrette lights on his MY01 and has the HID conversion. Apparently it is amazing with the beam reaching around 1/4 mile He has fitted HID to quite a few peoples Morrettes but I don't know whether the conversion fits the UK300 lights.

I'm sure a more technicaly minded person will be along soon to answer your questions

Enjoy the boards

Nathan..

I understand fitting HID to the UK300 style lights is not a problem

Thanks for the advice. It was the UK300 style lights I was looking at - I have had a really good quote for HID Morettes from Scoobysport, but Prodrive have just added an HID UK300 twin headlight kit onto the Subaru accessory list, Jan 2002, and I prefer the look of them to the Morettes, plus they don't need painting, so can be fitted myself rather than paying for fitting/painting etc... (every penny counts when they're that expensive to start with!)
Would still appreciate any tips for best prices for Prodrive parts!!

The non-HID Morettes on my MY01 cost £446 painted and fitted at Scoobysport, saving me 15,000 pennies over the UK300 style ones. Though I would have quite happily had the UK300 lights if Morettes had not been available.

If the UK300 lights perform as well or better than the Morettes, night time driving will become an enjoyable experience again.

I think mine are a little high (unusual for Morettes?), my dipped lights illuminate road signs upto 150m away and also light the road ahead for the car in front!!!!

Hi there,

I'm thinking about the UK300 lights as well so would appreciate any info on where to get a reasonable price for this, or if there are any UK300 owners out there wishing to "upgrade to the classic bugeye look!

Also would like to know what the cost for HID version is as all I have got so far is POA!

Cool

try motion styling, they've got some WRC types at the bottom of the page, or try performance subaru and select NEW WRX from the menu bar, they've got all 3 types (but no prices).

I've looked at the MRT site - 2,800 Australian dollars for HID - that's £1,000+. Will wait for a response from Performance Subaru - they came back to me really quickly by e-mail last week and told me they didn't have a price for the Prodrive HIDs yet, but would get in touch. In the meantime, I have seen someone on eBay with some Hella lights which look remarkably like the Prodrives... He won't say if they are Prodrive, but says that he will have HID in a couple of months...?

Bear in mind that MRT are not allowed to ship Prodrive parts back to the UK.

I got a set of UK300 headlamps from John Griffin (JGRIFF), brand new at a very good price.

I have fitted the HID Kit shown @ http://www.autolamps-online.com/products/h7kit.htm which was the best value kit I could find. (£344 inc. VAT & Delivery)

I have only just fitted the lamps, I have the HID kit on dip and they seem very very good. I have only done a few miles but the difference from standard is very noticable, one slight problem is that the dip seems to vibrate a bit.

Cheers

E.

Harry_Boy...

MY01 WRX BBM ... Looks good without colour keying ....

The surround is Black ABS ..

BTW . Took about 1.5 hours to fit (and I was super careful.. )
professional could do it in 45mins...
So why does the local Subaru garage want to charge > £600 for the pleasure !

Question

According to Gilesgate Subaru at Hexham, Prodrive have now withdrawn the HID headlights(before they were even available to dealers), the dealer said something about them not being UK legal(?)and that they were only able to supply UK300 standard or Morettes. Anyone else heard anything about the HID version?

Hi Daphne - is it because thay are supposed to have a headlamp washer included with all HIDs?

Scotty - good tip. Fancy colour coding, but dealer prices are extortionate.....

Question

Harry Boy
If that's the case, then shouldn't there be a problem with converting the Morettes too?
Will continue researching...!

Sti lights have a 6 wire adjustment motor, the standard WRx, UK300 light, and Morrettes have a 3 wire adjustment motor. This means that the standard lights, UK300, and Morrettes are interchangeable with each other. The STi lights are not(at present) interchangeable with anything else, because of this disparity in the wiring loom

Latest info from Prodrive by e-mail today is that they have no plans to introduce HID version at this time, but that when they do there will be upgrades available.
Looks like I might be going for UK300 standards then... (Still don't like the look of Morettes, but I suppose it's personal choice).
