I did this and got stopped and was told I had no excuse. I replied I did have an excuse because I was as pissed as a fart, so on he went with his tail between his legs.

Technically there isn't such an offence. BUT you can be prosecuted for either careless/inconsiderate driving or dangerous driving if the police think that it's appropriate.

Where did you get caught ?

On family outings I used to drive to the speed limit in my People carrier with auto and cruise control. TBH it was bloody dangerous and I have never undertaken so much in my life. I used to set it to 66mph in the slow lane with my steering wheel playstation accelerator and brake crawling passed idiots in the middle lane, or having to slow down speed up to overtake and then get all the way back in again. Not to mention the lorries that over take you passed 70mph.

I have found of late that cruising at 80 is the safest speed to travel. Fast enough to avoid the idiots and incompetants and consistent enough to move between lanes to let faster cars pass.

I used to use the cruise control in 30mph zones too which did nothing but build up a nice line of people behind me, what do you do

Hmmm, no doubt there would be 2 of them with their word against mine meaning guilty until I could prove my innocence. The UK is a messed up place these days

I have been stopped for driving too slowly on a motorway (car was not well) but got away with it. However, other people have been prosecuted & convicted for it.

Don't know the precise offence code but I'm sure its dangerous driving or simillar.

A few roads have minimum speeds, quite rare but if you are driving slowly enough to be cuasing a hazard yes you could quite possibly get stopped and nicked.

I always remember some old grandad who used to drive on the motorway at under 30 having he licence revoked after being fined many times for dangerous driving. It was in the national press about 10-15 years ago.

As I understand it, you can get done for causing an obstruction by driving too slowly. You would have to be driving very slowly in comparison to the limit for that though. I remember a bloke being done for that when he used to drive slowly deliberately to slow everyone else down.

Cant think what the point is of setting the cruise control to 66 mph. why not just set it to the speed limit. You have a 10%+2 leeway anyway by most police forces.

Theres no law against it but you have the wrong car (you need some filthy 1.5 litre or less eurobox, possibly even a Kia or Hyundai), your probably 35 years to young and you'd have to wear a flat cap or a trillby, not to mention be married to a mavis, gladis or deardrie!

Oh! and live in South cheshire, cos most of the people round here seem to drive at 10 mph or more under the speed limit. like the **** who was doing 30mph in a 50mph zone with 20 cars stuck behind him this morning!

There definatly should be a minimum speed limit for cars on a motorway. A lorry should never be able to pass a car!
Cars should have to do minimum of 60mph on a motorway!
