Hi there, just wondering what everyone's recc'd are for a digital compact camera that doesn't cost more than £250.

Looking for a camera that takes good indoor pictures, perhaps when light is not very good.
Easy To use.
Takes reasonably good movies
SD Card
Capable of taking wide shots
Not too heavy/big

Seen the panasonic lumix range and the canon range G9?

Opnions greatly appreciated.

Reasonably priced compact cameras are limited to a degree by the size of their sensor. Noise at low light levels is basically more likely than not however some are better than others.
I have a G9 and have been pleased with it. As for really wide angle and telephoto shots, there are 2 additional lenses (extra) that can help with both ..I haven't bothered as the range is OK for me for what I use it for. Given reasonable light, it is capable of seriously good quality.
Its not the lightest or smallest but is reckoned to be about the best compact package for sensible money. It is as easy to use even in full manual mode which is a breeze and has lots of flexible options as well as point and shoot simplicity. It takes pretty movies in two different qualities.
I have a larger SLR camera and find this a good substitute when needing something more compact or when I have an extreme lens on the other camera. Recommended here :)

Similar to Joni above, big DSLR user but wanted something smaller/easier to carry for trips/holidays etc. Canon G9 was my choice and must admit I love it.

Noise is the only issue but would be same with any compact, otherwise, terrific camera with some great features.

Wide angle use isn't an issue as it has a stich assist mode that helps you take panoramics, and software supplied will auto stitch them for you and do a good job doing it.

Full auto mode, including indoor shots is pretty good and the flash is well controlled.

Also recommended :)

Cheers

Ian

Thanks for your thoughts. I think i will need to have a look at one in person to see how it feels, as my wife will also be using this. I bought a Pentax Optio S6 because it was such a compact camera but this has been so disapointment, my 6 year old Canon S40 takes better pictures.
