Hi all,
I have a top floor flat and during the winter it is very difficult(expensive) to keep warm, The roof is concrete slab (1968) and it has recently been recovered but with no thought of adding insulation(doh).
Are there any easy/cheap solutions for putting up panels inside my flat , I think I could afford to lose about 50mm, will this make a noticable difference? also considering having the wall cavities filled any particular materials recomended?
cheers

Don't see why you couldn't put up battens, then sandwich insulation between the original ceiling and plasterboard fixed to the battens. You may need to extend the wiring a bit on any light fittings on the ceiling.
Not sure if you'll get condensation issues though?
celotex in what we use in loft conversions you can get these in different thickness 25mm up to 100mm
price ranges from £20 to £35+vat per sheet (8x4)
Cut these into the new batterns and then plater board with 12.5mm boards.
This would help.

i'd agree with pjb and coffin dodger. in principle battens with plasterboard should do the trick. if you fix battens, then insulation between the battens)(kingspan, celotex etc boards) and then staple some dpm sheeting over as a vapour barrier before fixing plasterboard, that "should" make quite a difference.

Why don't you just over board your ceiling with an insulated plasterboard ??? They are foam backed plasterboards which come in varying thickness of foam !!! these could just be screwed to your original ceiling (into original joists) and plastered as normal :D The job would only take as long as it takes to board the ceiling and no need to add other battons etc :D
Cheers all for the replies,
Was hoping for the "single" screw/stick it up solution, As said it is a concrete slab roof so hard as ****, I found that out when i had to put some battens on the kitchen ceiling a while back.
Was thinking of some L brackets mounted on the walls to support most of the weight so as to minimise the amount of drilling into the roof or thinking about it now could do the same with some battons then screw the boards as suggested earlier.
no doubt I'll dream about it tonight!!!
