Question

Hi,
I'm new to the Impreza scene and am looking to buy one, I have around £12000 to spend, I'd appreciate a bit of help with what model to go for, I was thinking about a WRX, are they the best for that sort of money??? any other advice regarding buying one would be appreciated. Also does anyone know of dealers in Scotland who have WRX's??? I've tried looking and have only found one so far!!!
Thanks,
Gary

I would go for a 98 model (99 model if you are lucky) UK model.

What about an Evo IV? There are plenty available around the 13K mark, so with a bit of haggling you should be able to get 'em down to 12K. Scoobies are great, but the Evo would be the far rarer beast and..

UK scooby 215 bhp (roughly)
Evo IV 280 bhp

Have fun whatever you choose.

alistair,
cheers for replying, I had a look but I'm still a bit unsure what to get, I think I'll just see what comes along.

blowdog,
Could I get a 98/99 model for that sort of money???

martin stirling,
I did think about an Evo, but I've wanted a scooby for quite a while, plus if I had to get one it would have to be the
Evo VI, maybe in a couple of years time!!!!!

Gaz

Whatever you buy UK/WRX, make sure it has a reconized service history and as low mileage as possible. This should put you in good stead for trouble free Scooby ownership.

Good Luck

Walker,
cheers, one of my musts for buying a wrx is FSH so hopefully I'll have no bother with it.

AllanB,
I've been on the autotader and top marques site, only problem is all the decent scoobys seem to be down in England whereas I live up in Aberdeen, but I suppose if I want a good one it'll be worth travelling eh?!

cheers,
Gary

Just remember that most dealer's will not service a import(WRX).Try S+S Service's in ayr ask for John Spicer if he's not got it in he will get it for you, very helpfull+ reliable. He had a Terzo not that long ago,P1 and a couple of nice(NON SPECIALS)Standard turbo's.
All the best DOUGIE.

Mellow Yellow,

Sounds like Martin Sterling has touched a raw nerve. Not jealous of Evo's by any chance are we?

Dont buy the UK 98 model because from what i`ve read on this there fuc=ed and suffer piston slap!!!
Go looking at UK motors of the same vintage as the better imports, write down the chassis number and then buy a WRX.
You`ve got the better car and when it comes to buying parts from your local scoob dealer give them the numb of the uk spec for your parts.
Not all are the same but 85% are.
The rest can be sourced on here!
If this sounds a little odd look at when the thread was posted (early hours of sat morn HICK!!)

What you want is a nice, well-sorted, standard Lancia Delta HF Turbo Integrale Evoluzione 2: similar performance to a UK Scoob, FAR superior 4WD handling, MUCH nicer interior, styling in a different league and a modern classic!

(dons flame-retardant suit)
Fire away lads!

Cheers wayne.
So can someone tell me, what are the main differences between a uk impreza turbo and an imported wrx ??? Am I right in saying that the wrx has more power even though it's limited to 112mph? How easy is it to remove the limiter?
I've also heard stories of subaru dealers not servicing wrx's, is this true?
Is £13000 too much to pay for a black imported wrx 'K' reg with 240bhp, very good condition with FSH and 40000 miles(genuine)?
Thanks again for your help lads!!!

Since you're in the Aberdeen area give Pat Brown at Indy Car Sales a bell or check his website.

Cheers, I've been up there before so I know where he is, it's only about 20mins from my house!!! I didn't know he had a website though. I just had a look and he's got a few nice scoobys there, only thing is he doesn't give a price! I'll have to go up and have a closer look.
thanks again,
Gary

A few things that would worry me about buying a WRX over a UK car.

1. Servicing - There a lot of independents now though.
2. Resale value - ??
3. Insurance - Have you had a quote yet?, I looked at changing to a STI a while back and was quoted 3 fold increase in premium !
4. History - I know a couple of years back, a dealer with a load of second hand WRX's on his forecourt ALL with 13,000 on the clocks ??
If the car was brought in new, then this wouldn't apply.
All cars -
How many track days has it done ( A dealer isn't going to tell you!). Would you buy a car that has done 15 track days ? Scoobs are strong but !

If I was buying a secind hand Scoobs i'd probabaly go for a UK car and try and buy it privately with some warranty remaining. You could talk to the owner a see how well the car had been treated or not.

Just some thoughts.

Steve.
