Bought a Canon EOS 40D today, with the 17-85 IS USM lens kit. I have been intending to buy a digital SLR for about 2 years now, so finally decided to bite the bullet. Still haven't finished reading the manual yet, but took it out to have a play this afternoon. This is one of the better shots. hints tips criticisms please, not planning on spending my time looking for insects to photograph, this one just happened to catch my attention with a fly past!!!

Good choice:thumb:

I don't think I ever read much of the manual with my old 300D or 20D and my new 40D seems to be quite intuitive ;)

Perhaps I should read it, and all the other photography books I've acumulated:rolleyes: I might actually learn how to use it one day ;)

It's a well known fact that the manuals are for the girls;) Boys are genetically programmed to chuck the manual in a drawer and forget about it. We intuitively work out how to use the kit (it takes a good deal longer than reading the manual, but it's a lot more fun!) The only time you ever need the manual is when you sell the equipment on.:thumb:

To be honest I need a manual just to explain the manual - only up to page 92 so far!!! Its not that I am a slow reader, just that my brain is slow to remember it all!!!!
