LOL :D
That reminds me, does anyone know if you can set the 400D self timer to 2 seconds? All I can seem to do is to switch on the self timer and it's set to 10 seconds?

never used it on my 1D, but Suzy's D300 timer duration is in the menus, ie; not on the external controls.

Don't think the 400D has the 2s self timer option. My 350D didn't, my 30D didn't, my 40D does.

Isnt there a way with the Mirror Lockup function too

Im sure there is a way of only getting 2 seconds, instead of 10

LMAO :thumb:
I've found the mirror lockup bit in the menu's but not anything to set the self timer length.
It's a pain having to wait 10 seconds for every shot when you're doing still life and set up on a tripod and don't want to risk vibration from pressing the shutter release. I suppose the other thing I could do is buy a remote shutter release but I just expected the 400D to have the option, my cheapo 3 year old Fuji compact has it!

According the Canons specs, the 400D and 5D (surprisingly) has only the 10sec self timer option - the 450D, 40D, and 1D series offer both 2 and 10 sec

The only other option with the 400D or 5D, other than counting to eight, is to throw the camera higher :D

NASA have been doing that for years:

Guy throws the camera up in Florida, bloke in Sydney catches it :D

Hmmm, if I tried that a few times I'm fairly sure that eventually someone would be calling out 'butterfingers' and the camera would be, er, broken.

I suppose somewhere there is a gallery of 'the moment before I broke my camera' pictures... :)

Try this Canon RC1 remote. Should work.

I gave it a go, or quite a few goes actually... nearly all of them the camera ended up pointing anywhere except me.

There were a few slightly fumbled catches, but nothing drastic. I taped the strap to the body so it didn't go in front of the lens. Higher is better in some ways, you get more time to work out the best way to catch it again... a DSLR with a big wide-angle on it is going to kill you if it lands on your head :lol1:

Needs more practice, but the likelyhood of dropping it increases inexorably as you give it more tries :(
