I'm guess that this has been posted before, but could anyone advise on the areas I need to 'tin foil' prior to an engine bay clean on a 07 WRX.

Intercooler and alternator. I wouldn't personally use foil as it is a conductor. Any visible electrical connections should be covered, according to some. Personally, I've covered the alt. and Intercooler and used a low pressure hose to remove degeaser. Best of luck

Most important is the alternator, to cover it I used cling film which done the job perfect. I would suggest spraying the engine with Gunk and use a brush to get into all the hard to reach places, then a moderate rinse with the pressure washer taking extreme care around the intercooler, fuse box, battery etc. Run the engine to dry it off, then once cool dress and protect.

Its the one circled bottom left on top of the ribbed pipe from the air filter box with the wires coming out of it, looks yellow wire on the above photo.

What do you clean the alternator with since you cover it?
Also, don't you have to cover the air intake hole? Or is there a drain pipe at the bottom of it (i doubt otherwise the air would escape from there)

Use clingfilm/plastic bag or something similair :)

I didnt bother covering the air intake on my WR1, just dont go daft with the hose/pressure washer and you'll be fine :lol1:
