View Full Version : Moving toilet seats

I have no end of problems keeping the toilet seat securely fastened to the bowl.
I do not know if I am using the wrong type of seat fixings, but all the seats I have tried use the same threaded bolt and wing nut method. This is then adjusted with a small screw underneath the base of the hinge.

The holes in the bowl are about 1 inch across, so no matter how much I tighten the wingnut, adjust the fixings etc, the seat starts to slide about after a few weeks. This loosens the screw, so I have to remove the seat and tighten everything up.

I have never had this with any other toilet

Should there be some plastic or rubber inserts to the holes in the pan?
I am tempted to try to make some unless anyone has a better idea.

Cheers

Mark

put thread lock on the thread (the one you have to take seat off to get to) this seems to cure a lot of problems.

or try nylock nuts (and stop wriggling so much, you don't have to force it out you know :nono: )

I had this problem, resolved by doing 2 things.
b & q do a quality seat the uses different fixings and these do not move, will take a pic later and post it up

second thing I did was lost some weight :D

:lol1:

Thanks for the replies

It is not me that moves it :o , it is the wife
She always twists as she gets off.

Do you know the type of seat in B and Q ?

If the holes are actually 1 inch across then the seat will always move unless that hole is filled around the fixing bolt with something like mastic or gripfil but it will have to be left to set.
