Guys,

After the trip to Japfest on Saturday the car wasn't looking to bad but thought I'd clean the car up again to keep on top of things.

I thought I'd use the Meguiars "Quick Detailer" for a change and partly because I was looking after my son at the time. I wouldn't normally use such an item but thought the dirt wasn't much so carried on. I did it in a cool ,shaded area.

Later last night I had to go to my car to get something. To my shock I turned the light on in the garage and the look of the paint work was all "misty looking" ? I ran my knuckle through a "misty" area and it cleared but with a slight smear.

Is this because the Meguiars "Quick Detailer" isn't suited to the Blackfire range that is on my car?

Surely I can get away with just cleaning the car to remove the Meguiars "Quick Detailer" can't I ? As its only surface based? Then I can apply the Blackfire gloss spray over the car once I have dried it etc?

Please give me your input.

Steve

Steve,

possibly as the blackfire range doesn't really like having other products applied over the top. that said qd shouldn't really affect it. What was the weather like when you used the qd? if damp it may just be residue that needs to be washed off. what i'd do is:

2 bucket wash method,
dry with drying towel,
inspect - if it's still there then it may be best to claybar with the megs quick clay. this shouldn't leave any marring. re apply the BF from scratch.
or if gone, apply another layer of the bf to top up,
don't do it again ;)

Blackfire and Meguiars "Quick Detailer" are fine to mix with each other I used to use that combo to maintain my Blackfire wax after each wash (now moved to Meguiars Last Touch). Must have been weather related

Having used Quick detailer, Speed detailer and Ultimate detailer with no problems all I can say is that if a product is affected by such a mild cleaner, you should stay well clear of it - the wax, not the detailer! As mentioned, it was either the conditions or quite likely, not using a fresh part of the cloth (or another cloth) to remove the detailer after application. This is a common reason for smearing.

You shouldn't use an acrylic sealant (like Megs) over a carnauba wax (like the BF)... This is because the sealant will not allow the wax to evaporate and can cause hazing.

In the case of the BF quick detailer, it contains similar qualities to the wax so can be combined together without any problems.

If I were you, I would use the Megs quick detailer as a lube for claying only and stick the the BF for wax and quick detailing..

Fair enough then.... I've just been advised not to use a sealant over wax... check PB car care guides (in maintain section), and it also states the same thing. I'm just making the suggestion from what I have been told / read.

Maybe the megs detailer is a wax based one....

The Megs Quik Detailer isn't a spray sealant, it's just a quick detailer (i.e. a spray wash solution) with gloss enhancers, so it is fine to use over the entire BF range. From the description, it sounds like the quick detailer may have been used just before the evening dampness came down, and this can cause such problems. Matt's suggestion above is spot on; a normal wash should solve it. :)

Cheers folks for your input. I'm going to wash it tomorrow if the weather holds out? (FIngers crossed) . I should be able to spray some BF gloss spray on after as normal shouldn't I?

Cheers again all.
