After a week at the Ring I was severly disappointed with the standard set up on my 2005 STi PPP after boiling my fluid. I don't really want to spend £1200 on a set of 6 pot AP Racing brakes as I'm not sure how long I will be keeping the car or upgrading the standard set up as it's obviously cheaper but still circa £700. I run 17in wheels for track and the heat dissipation is poor to say the least.

What is the re-sale price for the 6 pot AP's?

Should I try upgrading the discs, pads, brake fluid and fit braided lines before thinking about the AP's?

Currently running EBC turbogroove discs (crap BTW), Mintex M1155 pads.

Any comments welcome but don't just say buy the AP's

 

Search on here. Performance friction (PF) discs and PF pads for your Brembo's will take some track day hammer.
One or two on here have those.
Also, there is a K-Sport group buy on now. That is another option.
But with no direspect to any brake manufacturer, sometimes you get what you pay for. AP's are bloody expensive, but that is for a reason.
There are a few time attack cars running the K-Sports too this year.
I feel from your post you would be best suited to PF discs and PF pads.

 

How old is the fluid ?

I boiled mine at Blyton, but they didn't fade under normal track use.... PF on mine, same price as Subaru parts, but so much better !

P.S. Some simple trunking to feed cold air into the front of the wheel well is vital on track !

Ap's allthe way absolutely no comparison i destroyed the standard set up Ap's are the nuts dont forget the braided hoses and uprated fluid

As dunx says, how old has your fluid been? It may have been contaminated with water hence it boiled.
I would upgrade the brake fluid first and change discs.
At the end of the day it depends how much time your car spends on the track or road to justify the expense of the APs.

P.S. I had the impression that the Ring is not hard on the brakes?

 

Car is 2 years so assume that the brake fluid is the same age.

It's not that hard on brakes hence I was surprised I boiled the fluid, I'm still a Ring noob with only about 50 laps under my belt running 8:40's so I maybe I err on the side of caution and brake unnecessarily in places. I have never had any brake problems on UK circuits.

My cars see a fair amount of hard miles on road/track.

(Re-sell) value of APs will vary depending on what caliper/components are used.

Performance Friction Kits are very popular for your model

The Brembos with Performance Friction Discs, Bells and Pads work very well indeed on a fast road/track setup. They also give a very good lifespan.
