View Full Version : Who is the best player EVER to play for your team?
Craigo86 15 May 2008, 19:15 Hey guys i thought i'd start a new thread so we can some more arguements :lol1:
My pick would have to be for Gianfranco Zola, Anyone in any doubt just watch this goal - the man is, and always will be a legend in my eyes. :notworthy YouTube - Soccer - Zola goal - Chelsea V Norwich City 4-0 (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oW-9cqnD2LY)

pauld37 15 May 2008, 19:54 Yep Zola for me too :notworthy
Funkii Munkii 15 May 2008, 20:09 Unless you are aged 120 + no need to apply as you have no way of backing it up ;)
In my lifetime too many to mention, but I would have to say Best, never saw him play but have enough VHS and DVD footage, although Duncan Edwards will come very close for fans older than me.
16vmarc 15 May 2008, 20:27 Suppose it would be Robbo, Hughes, Cantona or Giggs for me.
I'm going to have to say Giggs though as in his prime he was immense.
Solskjaer is definatley up there for the way he could come on and get a goal (or 4!!) Van Nistelrooy deserves a mention for his goal scoring but hes not up there with the above for me.
myblackwrx 15 May 2008, 20:52 Dennis Bergkamp

His hatrick against leicester in 97 was rather special as well.

STi wanna Subaru 16 May 2008, 00:00 Zola.. so overrated. Never made it at a big club or did much for his national team. Flair player loved by fans from an average team. No shame in that though.
STi wanna Subaru 16 May 2008, 00:01 As for United... Never saw him play but Charlton. Uniteds best and Englands best.
WR 1mposter 16 May 2008, 00:04 being a villa fan there is so much vaste choice it's impossible to pick any 1 player :lol1:
fatherpierre 16 May 2008, 00:09 Billy Bremner for my team.
Bergkamp is the best player to have graced the Prem.
Bruce Rioch did something right.

Not as overated as your best ever player, as voted for by the fans, ****ona, couldn't even get in his national side
DJ Dunk 16 May 2008, 09:20 If I had to pick one, it would be King Kenny Dalglish
davegtt 16 May 2008, 09:37 Not as overated as your best ever player, as voted for by the fans, ****ona, couldn't even get in his national side
Wasnt that down to grudges/arguments with those running the shop?
Oldhams best player? Dunno really, too many to mention, Jimmy Frizzel before my lifetime.
Had a few greats play for us which would suprise you all but a leg end would have to be either Ricky Holden, Andy Ritchie, Frankie Bunn (holds the record for most goals in a single game in the League Cup and I was there ;) ) Ian Marshall (just for the mullet) Roger Palmer, Earl the Pearl Barrett, Richard Jobson. Ohhh I dont know.
Andy Ritchie if I have to pick one, greatest ever England striker never to play for England ;)
alcazar 16 May 2008, 10:15 Barrie Thomas, or Billy Sharp, for the sheer class of their goals.
Bill Punton as a left winger, and Peter Beagrie as a right winger.
Matt Elliot in central defence.
Ray Clemence in goal.
Sadly, all sold on, except for the two wingers we had in their declining years.
Alcazar
Funkii Munkii 16 May 2008, 10:17 Frankie Bunn (holds the record for most goals in a single game in the League Cup and I was there ;) )
I remember that night, coming out of Old Traff after we'd been spanked 3-0 by Spurs in a Littlewoods cup game, 1st thing I heard on the car radio, Calderwood broke his leg for Spurs that night, I remember the crack !
davegtt 16 May 2008, 10:26 Just incase anyone wants to see how football should be played and how teams got picked apart at the great Boundary Park

Funkii Munkii 16 May 2008, 10:38 Was that artificial turf ?
Cant believe that's nearly 19 years ago!
davegtt 16 May 2008, 11:00 Yeah plastic pitch, only us Luton and QPR IRRC had that back then. Its why everyone hated coming to Latics. Theres a picture somewhere of Neville Southall when he played at BP (in the days of 2 replys in the League Cup) after 2 games at BP his knees were cut to shreds and had sand in them  felt sorry for the guy, especially as they lost too :D
hail-hail 16 May 2008, 11:21 In recent times it would have to be Henrik Larsson with a staggering 242 goals for Celtic in 315 matches, won 4 titles in 7 years and went on to win 2 titles and the Champions League with Barca.
However this is nothing compared to the record of James McGrory who played in the 20's and scored 410 goals in 408 league games for Celtic with stats of 550 goals in 547 games in all competitions.
He did manage 7 goals in his only 7 games for Scotland. Quite good really considering Celtic players did not get picked for Scotland during the time.
He was also the manager when we beat Rangers 7-1 in the Scottish Cup final :D:D:D
Ted Maul 16 May 2008, 11:54 Billy Bremner for my team.
Bergkamp is the best player to have graced the Prem.
Bruce Rioch did something right.
so true. god bless Rioch for that one, turned the Arse around. Without getting into the whole 'what does best' mean, I'd say top 5 in no order of brady, henry, bergkamp, adams and wrightwrightwright
oh and perry groves :)
DaveBeck 16 May 2008, 15:06 same 5 as me Ted. would include Adams to for his leadership and ability to drop players on their heads after games. Bless steve morrow :lol1:
as for bergkamp. genius
my favourite collection with a nice sound track to

   OVERRATED!!!   This idiot must've been born yesterday
Craigo86 17 May 2008, 09:10 Billy Bremner for my team.
Bergkamp is the best player to have graced the Prem.
Bruce Rioch did something right.
As a Chelsea fan, I would agree Bergkamp was ONE of the best players in the prem - his technical ability, positioning and the fact that he was a joy to watch were his best qualities - ok he wasn't as much of a goalscorer as Henry but his contribution to the team and the fact that he was never a big-headed tw@t or got into any trouble off the pitch. (e.g. playing with hookers or rape allegations) The only downside to the chap was that he didn't like flying so he wasn't much use in the C/L when Arsenal had to play teams who were hundreds of miles away. :thumb:
Bravo2zero_sps 17 May 2008, 14:54 Bergkamp for me not just for Arsenal but my favourite player of all time. Scored amazing goals, his passing vision was pure genius (which possibly I enjoyed more than his goals) and he was a model professional who was always modest about his abilities. My Arsenal shirt with Bergkamp and no 10 on the back will never be replaced :)
JimmyBFC 17 May 2008, 15:22 Neil Redfearn and Ronnie Glavin
