The car is a 93WRX with bolt on mods that won its class in the Japanese Intermarque Sprint Champs last year.

Spec:

ESL Live
440cc injectors
Autobahn FMIC
Decat and Induction
Later Map sensor
KW suspension

To convert to RWD, the centre diff was welded and front driveshafts removed. It soon became apparent that the mechanical wrx lsd wasnt working effectively so that was also welded up. Unfortunately the car ended up atop the tyre wall at round 1 due to me running out of talent on Friday practice. The welded diff then failed quite quickly, so another was sourced and welded with more conviction.

This is the ESL car in action at a recent licensed test day at Santa Pod: (about 15meg, 1 min on broadband);

It wasn't the easiest thing to drift and we have decided to go for more lock (not sure how to achieve this yet), more castor/camber with adjustable top mounts and a stiffer rear anti roll bar. A proper lsd would also decrease turn in understeer and smooth the transitions somewhat. The stock handbrake seems to work quite well so a hydro is desirable rather than essential.

The car will be at BDC rounds 3-6 if anyone is planning to attend, come and say hello.

Here is a hd streamer of various pro cars at another test day:

Another practice day at pod, another broken gearbox!

The 150000 mile stock engine is holding up under 1.4bar despite being constantly into the limiter. I think the ESL Live closed loop knock control is working to prevent any det despite the challenging conditions (it was very hot).

Not too expensive, the last 2 gearboxes have been donated by friends and I'm quite good at getting them in and out now. So FoC actually :)

Cheers Frayz, long time no see mate!

Are you using the R160 or R180 rear diff?

Also while I think about it, I take it you have heard about using a FWD steering rack to get more lock?

Cheers

160. I have heard, is it true? Why would a fwd rack have more lock??

Hows the R160 holding up? Has the more thorough welding held up?

Have a read of the first post in the link below and make your own choice on whether it is genuine or not.... :wonder:

And to answer your question....., I have no idea. Maybe as the link says its to help old grannies make 3 point turns :lol1:

I love this project by the way. Good to see a thread on it and how its going :thumb: Wish Dan with the orange one had done a project thread cause that car looked mental :(

Oh well, keep up the good work and keep us informed how it goes.

The R160 has seen off a couple of gearboxes. I must admit I was expecting that or a rear shaft to go first, but so far so good.

Dans car has been sold, heard a rumour that it found its way to Norway?

Anyone scrapping a FWD? I'd like to try that rack.
