Default Cable sticking out of pavement near to my house..

I noticed a few weeks ago a cover had been removed from what looks like a small triangular shaped hole in the pavement near to my house. There is now a cable sticking out which was in one piece and looped back into the ground. The cable has recently been cut and remains a mess over the pavement.

Earlier on I tried to stuff it back into the duct in the ground but it won't budge. It's a bit of an eyesore and I was wondering if anyone knows what it could be so I contact the relevant people to deal with it?

The cover is missing and I'm guessing it would have some sort of clue written on it as to what is within.

Thanks

Nick

contact your local council, say you are concerned that children will play with it and get electrocuted/

Check whether its live, put your tongue on it like 9 volt batteries.

Is the cover about 2" square (OK triangular)?

If so sounds like a cable TV connection. When they put the cable in the street about 10 years ago they put a conenction to each house with one of these boxes on the boundary line. The cable runs into the box and is then looped back down to keep it out of the way. When a house subscribed a cable was laid from the house to the box and a connection made and the connection pushed back down into the box.

And forgot to say if this is what it is then it's not dangerous at all, no significant voltage on it at all.

If it is a cable .. er.. cable as in Virgin Media, drop me a U2U and I'll get it sorted ASAP.

Need to make sure it is cable though
