Had my fairly standard MY99 serviced this morning. As expected the brake discs are warped. Since I was resigned to replacing them anyway, I asked about upgrades (I was told not to bother with the OE discs since they're not great - clearly not if I managed to warp them with my pussyfooting about).

So the garage gave me some numbers on the Prodrive ones - they simply replace the OE discs (same size I guess) and fit in the 4-pot MY99/00 calipers. Cost: £280 for the pair of front discs (+fitting+VAT), and £140 for the pair of Prodrive pads to go with them (again +fitting+VAT). That works out at somewhere near £600 all in.

When I was getting new tyres last month, Tyres Northampton suggested a £300 all-in upgrade to the front discs and pads. But I'm a bit wary of that since Scoobyjawa has had problems with his (done the day I was there).

Anyway, it's become hypothetical, since the garage just suggested replacing the OE discs under warranty. Bingo - I might not be getting an upgrade, but it's free and it'll be a big improvement over the warped current discs. And then I can choose an upgrade at leisure.

Big question - are the Prodrive discs worth it? They're feckin' expensive, but if they do the job well (and are covered by the warranty) then they might just be worth having. Or are there sensible alternatives (and no, I do NOT want to go to 17"s - I like my car to be stealthy).

SJOBSON M8 why dont you try a change to the Pagig grooved disc's &
Pagid blue pads? I am sure you will be pleased ! & they will fit
under your 16" wheels no problem, should only cost £350.00 max.

Cheers RogerM... that's the sort of recommendation I was looking for. And now I've got a name so I can search the archive for previous posts on them.

I'm just looking at sorting the brakes on my MY99 4dr before going down to Catalunya. I'm running std 16" wheels.

I was considering the EBC setup but I've been shopping around whilst doing my homework and reading up.

I had a chat will Paul @ TSL today.

They use the DS2500 pad (the Prodrive pad is the DS2000 AFAIK). Highly recommended for performance and minimal dust. You can use them on the standard discs if you are prepared to take some sand paper to the discs to rough them up.

I'm probably going for...

TSL Group N spec cast iron discs - £188+VAT
DS2500 Pads - £141+VAT (Edit - Need to double check this price with Paul)
Braided hoses - £69+VAT

Add in a couple of hours to fit (£39.50 p/h + VAT) and maybe the super dooper Sikolene DOT 4 racing brake fluid to improve the pedal feel.

Not cheap but if you are going to do it once, you might as well do it properly.

I've had the prodrive upgrade done and it's worth, no fade, but you pay more for this.

Thanks

Wink

I have the Pagid set-up,they are the best I have used(standard stuff and EBC pads of green, red and yellow flavour before, with standard and Pagid discs),I find that the pads last well on the first track day but get cooked on the second.

Chris,

How about Godspeed?

I've got there 335mm kit on my 99 and it is stacks better than standard set up and IMHO looks better than most replacement disk/pad set up.

Granted I am on 17" wheels, but they also do a 308mm which I think should fit 16" wheels and they look superb - really fill up the wheel.

Here's the link: Godspeed, and a pic of my wheel:

Thanks Matt. I'm just exchanging a few e-mails with Robman who has the Godspeed setup under 17s as well.

Decisions, decisions!

Simon,

Cost me £790 in total, I can't remember the exact breakdown, but can remember that it was £75 for fitting (I went to Godspeed to have it done, as they are only in Bridgend) and £75 to have the calipers sprayed.

So I guess that leaves £640 for the kit, braided hoses and fluid (DOT 4 - I think). Which I seem to remember compares pretty well with anything else around.

If you want to see them and you're going, I'll be at the South West meet next weekend

Matt

ScoobySport do the Pagid brake kit at £470 incl. VAT + £70 for fitting. AFAIK it also includes braided hoses. More info on their website.
