Default Subwoofer Popping

Hi Guys,

Wonder if you could help me out.

I took all the ICE out of my Focus when i sold it and am trying to put in the 'Scoob (2005 UK WRX300) but am having a few problems.

Problem 1: When I change track on the head unit the JL 12W3 sub
pops. I get the same problem when turning the head unit on.

Problem 2: Turning up the gain on the amp pushes the Sub into an
uncontrollable state on full power which only subsides when the
amp is turned right down

I've tried all the obvious things like:
Different phono cables;
common earthing the head unit and amp etc.

For clarification, the kit is:
Alpine CDA-9855R head unit
Kicker KX350.2 Amp
JL Audio 12W3 Sub
Autoleads Qos RCAs
Autoleads power cables, fuses etc.
3-core speaker wire for remote line

I didn't have any of these problems in the Focus which makes me think it's a Scooby tweak that i'm not aware of.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Your RCA's dont have an earth wire running through them do they?
Or they havent got got broken?

Is the amp set up for Low Pass Filter (LPF) and are you using the correct bridging channel(s).

Just a couple of other avenues.

no, they havent got an earth lead running down them, hence why i tried running a common earth cable.

It doesn't matter at the moment as White Van Man smashed into the rear of it at 40mph on monday <sob> and is being repaired. Audi A5 courtesy car is irritating as it is growing on me.

Had a thought, i'm using the remote line from the back of the head unit, but on another thread someone said that was used for a ariel. Might plug that back in as radio reception is a bit pants and use on of the remote lines subaru have.

Thanks for the suggestions though mate, much appreciated.

29 days later, the car returned, thankfully they had done a good repair on it and no added 'test' mileage.

After mucking about for a few hours, I discovered it was the RCA module in the head unit.

New head unit and Bob's your uncle. Problem solved.

Now have Alpine 4 channel, Capacitor and full false floor boot install which was finished on saturday. Wahoo!
