has anyone got one of these cassette adaptors to work successfully?

i bought a BELKIN adaptor unit but the head unit just ejects it after a few seconds.

is there a secret move i do not know about?

Yes you need the sony one, most others don't have the correct resistance to the pinch roller and so the mechanism pops the tape out.
