my abs light is stayin on,anyone got any ideas what i can check myself before spending a fortune at my local subaru stealer:confused:

Worth checking the ABS unit earth first as they corrode up.

My ABS came on (classic 98), took it to the dealer, fault code in the ECU said it was the OSF ABS sensor was faulty. Which was £175 if I remember correctly(?). Brake pedal would flutter when car first started and used, then ECU would recognise fault and ABS would stop working, so braking then without ABS.

Apparently there are different types of sensor, some corrode in situ and are hard to remove, others like mine are relatively easy to fit unless the cheesy bolt holding the sensor in the hub shears which mine did.... So if you do go down the garage route and its diagnosed as a sensor I suggest you get a quote to supply and fit following diagnosis, so if there are problems you don't get charged extra...

ok,thanks.i think i'll check all the sensors first ,maybe squirt a bit of brake cleaner on em and see wot happens.:thumb:

check the resistence of the sensors aswell,just put meter leads on to contacts in the plugs.
not sure what the resistence should be but they should all be about the same,also check the toothed rings for cracks/corosion.

My subaru garage charged me £30 per half hour diagnostics. They told me my ABS ECU is shot. So now I have to source another one :)
