Hey guys,

I have a 53 WRX STI and have recently been told when servicing my car that I need my rear shocks replacing, it is lowered with prodrive springs on the standard suspension right now which is how I bought it. However I am now considering a coilover setup.

What coilovers are recommended for the car and wheres the best place to get them from...

Any help much appreciated.

Also the thing is I need to replace it anyway, I was trying to find some for sale on the forum and on ebay/pistonheads etc...but not much luck.
If I buy from subaru its around £200 odd for each.
So I might aswell go that little bit extra seeing as I got to spend that much.

Do you think I should just get coilovers, I would mind going lower and its adjustable...

AST's are awesome have some on my classic and my brother has them ona newage with 18's.
The ride is compliant for 18's with low profile tyres, it handles beautifully feels and very sure footed.
If you are having to change them anyway I would defo go AST's and get them setup properly.

I've been thinking about this for some time, think the best value for money may be the ASTs. Bit of a journey down from Manchester but may be the way i go if the MY06 doesn't get chopped for an MY08 Sti. May also be worth looking at the group buy forum and the Apex coilovers.... not much feedback yet for newage versions tho.

Hey thanx for that guys...I'll look into it, I'm going to have to re-do the driveway 1st as it will be slammed when I put the coilovers on.

Im also looking at D2 racing which were reccommended by a friend...however will let you know which I choose and how they are on the car.

The great thing with AST's is you can get full support from Curtis at Powerstation.
Get the right springs for your 'application' and curtis will set the damping to suit.

I am on my second set now, single adjustments first, then to 3 way adjustable ones which are really for racing imho.

Invest in a package from Curtis with the Whiteline anti roll bars as they all compliment each other.

Exe-TC are the perfect option. Much better feel on normal roads than std suspension with soft springing for comfort, but with the adjustability they can be wound up to provide an awesome track package.

I run them and love them.

If i don't like them and refit my dampers and Prodrive springs thats two lots of fitting and 4 wheel alignment i'd still have paid, almost the cost of the coilovers ;) . I'd rather let other people try them and give their opinions ;) :D

Not interested in a car that drives properly then? Might as well buy the cheapest and lowest suspension you can get, as it will be riding on the bump stops anyway with the front roll centre well below ground level :-)

It will still drive properly if its set up properly, I have known people to do it in the past and the car has driven well and also looked good.

Its just a matter of delaying it right now as Im buying a new house and if I dont need to spend that extra money at the mo its a bonus.

If you want to lower the car a lot on coilovers then make sure you get ones that dont just rely on dropping the spring platform to set ride height or youll run out of damper travel.
