On my '98 model there seems to be no glove box light, or facility to fit one, also the boot light holder is present, no bulb installed though, and there seems to be no cut off switch for the light when the boot is closed. Were they options or add on's.

UK cars have no glove box light but should have a functional boot light. The Americans didn't even get a boot light and after market fitting kits are commonly available over there. I have briefly thought about rigging something up for the glove box but didn't think it was worth it.

The cut off for the boot light is a small trigger beside the boot catch by your knees when you are standing looking in the boot.
