View Full Version : Non scooby test drive
gojonnyjo 25 January 2008, 21:18 Going for a test drive on monday :norty:
not a scooby , St2 Focus, :nono:
I know, but I am curiuos, heard that they have a lot of grunt, more so than a standard sti, not more bhp but more torque, 320nm I have seen some figures, anyone had a go in one of these focus's, wot u think of them
brocks 25 January 2008, 22:27 Focus ST is a cracking car, my mates had a couple.....quite torquey, and sound fantastic on the over run, lots of pops and bangs even standard....handle well and are very well finished inside...only thing that lets em down is they look very similar to a standard car ......white would be my choice colour wise as they look stunning and are real head turners....
Enjoy the test drive matey and report back your opinions
gojonnyjo 29 January 2008, 02:30 Well got my test drive today in the focus st, boy is that car nice, was really plesantly surprised. very well finished inside, recaro seats are nice fit, gauges galore, oil temp, boost, etc.... 18" alloys, 4 pot front brakes, to be honest the inital bite is that of an anchor wow :eek2:
what a roar from the 5cylinder lump, sat on the road well, route taken was moira rd, then up towards the airport, then back road back into lisburn, some nice straight bits, twisty bits to test the road holding, all i can say is, flaming nora......... no torque steer what so ever
been doing a bit of homework, ie tuning and all that, well seemly GGR do a package that gives 300bhp, yes I know its a front wheel drive, thats just with an induction, exhaust, fmic and remap.....
realy really seriuosly considering one of these in Orange, but think I'll be going to England for the buying of it...........
sadly boys and girls, methinks my scooby days are numbered
that is unless a nice black 2005 sti comes up again

M8 we can buy a new ST2 for 15k in work , but tbh its only a volvo engine stuck in focus . RS are launchin theres nxt year so if u r thinking of buyin 1 wait until then
markymark34 29 January 2008, 09:39 ST is a great car, i have though about a change myself! Couple of problems though. Handling - putting down all that power in a straight line is fine but you have to wait round the corners otherwise it just understeers like a pig (compared to a scooby). Fuel consumption, do a search even in the other marques bit on here, they return 20 - 22 mpg so 2mpg better than a scooby. On the plus sides the interior is great and the ride is very good.
You should have a look at an ST3 - leather seats!

AdamNI 30 January 2008, 23:14 They guy i bought my machine off had an ST2 as a company car:eek: , i got a ride in it and thought it was a nice machine, nice ride, nice interior, he didn't give it any so i can't comment on the performance. Of course i did ask him what he thought of it compared to the sti, he just shook his head and smiled, totally different animal. Depends what you want at the end of the day mate. I've heard about the poor fuel consumption too, i get 22mpg average out of mine. You've done the sti thing, nothing wrong with a change, as long as you aren't in two minds or you'll probably regret it every time you see an sti. I think there's plenty of sti's for sale at the minute, for good money too.
gojonnyjo 31 January 2008, 15:43 Thats the prob Adam, Im in 2 minds,,,,, going to hold back maybe and see, had my heart set on black sti, finding one is the prob, England is looking like the place to go
dee hagan 31 January 2008, 20:17 friend of mine has a black sti ppp (brocks knows who he is lol!), poss 04/05, not sure. Anyway, hes supposed to have ordered a NEW sti so his could be goin for sale....and dont have to go to england either!
will find out more & pm u if it is true.....
AdamNI 31 January 2008, 21:46 If you're in two minds i'd wait for the right car, they always turn up. There's quite a few black ones for sale in the uk, it's just finding the right one and being prepared to travel, and you will save money in my opinion. I went to the south coast of England for mine, couldn't get any further away, it was a 310 mile drive to get to Liverpool and get the ferry to Belfast. A drive i will never forget, including a run through an empty tunnel at Liverpool docks early Saturday morning with the window down in 3rd gear in my first scooby. As good as an ST may be, to me an sti is the real deal, coming off a wet roundabout in 2nd gear, welded to the floor with the diff in auto doing its thing and making you think you're a great driver is a feeling beyond the reach of any hot hatch. As always, keep us informed, and hopefully dee has some good news for you.
