I've a mica blue UK Turbo MY00 with black skirts and bumper corners.

Has anyone tried getting these resprayed to match their paintwork?
I went to my local (very expensive) paintshop and they said that because of the greasy nature of the plastic, they couldn't guarantee how long the paint would stay on. They said it would probably be fine, but thought they should mention it.

So, are they just covering their backs on the off chance?

Has anyone tried getting this done? If so, how long has the paint been on there and what condition is it in now?

Thanks!
Charles

Got mine done a few years back on a '98 car. I removed the bits, including mirrors, door handles and all skirts, and took them to a paintshop.

So long as they are reputable, they will use a plastic primer and the paintjob will be OK for years to come

Get it done on the cheap, however, and it'll end in tears.

they are just covering their backs.

You can buy sideskirts, bumpers, splitters etc all in primer or unpainted from a dozen of suppliers. And they all can be painted by a reputable paintshop.
The nature of the plastic shouldnt affect it, unless you are trying to make the call against Fibreglass and GRP etc.

My g/f's scoob just had all its bumper, sideskirts and spliter done and it looks great. I think she would have scraped it well before it falls off :lol1:

yes get paint code from engine bay , 1 st wash plastics then very very very thoroughly !! de grease ,allow to evaporate then apply light coats of plastic primer make sure its platic primer! 3 or 4 coats should do nicely, allow to dry 1- 2 hours then begin top coat of paint again light coats bulid them up gives a stonger surface and no runs! allow to dry then use a real hard laquer for surface protection and shine, eta approx 4 hours work if weather permits. poss 6 if showers are present. ;0)
