Well i thought it was about time i put up some information on my current build project for this year.

I'm in the process of building a supercar class rallycross gc8 impreza for the british rallycross championship. The collected the donor shell about 7-8 months ago, but due to incidents last year the time scale got put back and back and back. But now we are well and truely on with the project and only 63 days to the start of the new season, so it's all hands to the pump and time to burn the midnight oil.

The basic spec will be to use a 2ltr closed deck to produce circa 500bhp, but we will be less to begin with till we get the car through it's first few events and we learn to drive the thing :D, PPG straight cut dogbox, 4.44 diffs, proflex 3 way adjustables and a set of big balls!!

Various members of scoobynet have been helping me and are awaire of the project, and i've no doubt i'll be calling on the help from some of the others over the coming weeks.

The car is being fitted with a complicated rear radiator system which has take quite a while to figure out properly, but is almost finished now. This has been done to reduce the chance of front raditor damage, which does happen due to the nature of rallycross.

Rear rad set-up looks very similar to mine, also solves the problem of the rear firewall in a wagon shell :)

Had another big weekend on the scooby and managed to get it back on it's wheels for the first time in months.

The prep work for spraying will take part this week with a view to having it fully sprayed by 2 weekends time.. hopefully!

rear rad needs the elecy water pump fitting and the return pipes to the engine bay, but give you the idea.

Another weekend, another couple of milestones.

Managed to get the rear diff, shafts and hub's finally sorted.
Had to fabricate our own brackets for the wilwood rear 4 pots as they where designed for r160 rear hub's rather that my larger r180. However the work is now done and they look the mutts nut's, hopefully they will do the business on track, going to get a hard life with the flyoff handbrake!

The rear door vents and roof vents got a final layer of filler to smooth them perfectly to ensure proper airflow into the rear rad. The dimensions for the rear NACA ducts where taken from official aerodynamic documents and scalled up, so they are not just big holes in the back doors :lol1:

Also fitted the adjustable rear tie bars, slightly larger rear ARB, h/duty droplinks and now we are all ready for the proflex shockers to go up later this week when they arrive back from been serviced.

Great project, where abouts does this Rally-X take place in the UK, seen it on the tv occasionally but not aware of any meets or circuits.

So you may be on TV then :)

Its a pity its not on more mainstream TV more often as this has to be one of the most exciting motorsports around.

Must cost a fair bit to run a car with almost guaranteed panel damage every race!

Yeah there are a couple of scoobs running about 500bhp and lets just say they don't normally finish in the top places :(

Well it was another productive weekend, the body is now all finished and will be sprayed on tuesday, which is another big miles stone.

My major problem is i have to go to work away in the states for 20 day later this week, which is really going to cock up the time scale. But it will be all hands to the pump once i'm back.

Regards the power, i have to be realistic, i'm not a millionaire and have a 9-5 job to pay for it all so it has to be relighable and i have to get used to it. Compaired to my stockhatch metro it's going to take some getting used too, and even though i have had road scoobys before, this is a totally new kettle of fish. The power got limited 2 years back when they brought in the european 45mm restictor, so power does tend to be less than it used to, but it's still a lot!

I'm hoping that my experiance and commitment (no shortage of that) will stand me in good stead and the handling should be fairly much spot on, so i should be able to hang on in there and get into the midfield pack. I'm not expecting to come fresh out the box and win, so i have targets for the year and view the car on a multi year project.

Good on you & good luck :thumb: I know Paul Coney from the old days, he still has a 1600cc aspirated corsa with about 280bhp but does'nt race anymore due to time & comitment

Went to Lydden at the weekend for the Rallycross and there were no Scoobys competing :(

I'm surprised Kev Mccann wasn't out in his, usually a regular competitor. I know he was doing a lot of updates to his over the winter but thought it would have been ready by now.

Mines been held up due to work comittments, spending more and more time out the country and on the road, so i have to make the most of the time i have at home.

No i have the intercooler as a spare, but the rad wasn't any use in the end.
Did you ever get that motor though for the rad fans, as that would be useful as a spare.

I spoke to Kev at Croft's ROC first round and he said he had no engine in the car! More troubles for him then!

Just a quick update, more to follow later tonight once we have done more work. After discussing with my main sponsors yesterday, we have slightly revised the colour scheme, and this mock up is what we have decided to change it too.
