Guys,

I originally posted in general technical, but I may get better help here I suspect.

Don't quite know how to describe this properly?

The car is a MY05 UK STI with PPP.
Lately I've noticed that if you lift off the accelerator at around 3,500 - 4000 RPM there is a strange high pitched squeak/whistle.

I don't think it happens all the time either.

Any ideas?

Need to make sure its OK before the Andy Forrest remap in February.
I'm getting an STI panel filter and new spark plugs(NGK PFR7B) fitted before he comes over, so I'll get the dealer to look at it next week.

Its the standard factory recirculating unit.

How long - we'll when it does it something like half a second?

Didn't do it at all yesterday.

Would hazzard a guess at it maybe being turbo chatter (no arguements about wastegate chatter, turbo chatter, compressor stall please) - hard to say without hearing it - would fit with your comment about lifting off and closing the throttle.

my 02 WRX started doing this after it's decat. Can't wait for warmer weather to get the windows down and listen to it again:thumb:

Does it do it when stationary? Park up and pop the bonnet and get a friend to listen. I recently had a squeak myself when lifting off the throttle pedal, tracked it down to the spring beneath the pedal itself!

Don't know about when stationary to be honest, but I shall try later.

Only started recently, and as said before it doesn't happen all the time.
Drove to work this morning and not a peep, altough it canbe difficult to get 3.5K rpm when driving from Bangor to Balfast!
